In loving memory of Alexander James (Jim) Webster, 100 years old, who passed away August 21, 2026, in his home with family by his side in Saskatoon.
Jim was born on September 5, 1925, in St. Walburg, Saskatchewan to Oliver and Bella Webster. He grew up on a farm in northern Saskatchewan learning the importance of working together as a family to be able to survive.
At just 17 years of age, he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country during the Second World War. His commitment to service remained an important part of who he was throughout his life.
He attended University of Saskatchewan graduating in Agriculture in 1949. He married Jean immediately after graduation and moved to Tisdale. He started his career as the youngest Agrologist in Saskatchewan. He completed a Masters in Continuing Education at Fort Collins, Colorado as he realized his role was helping people achieve their goals whether it was the farmers with whom he worked or the staff he hired throughout his career. His wife of 69 years, Jean, supported him with her flexibility, encouragement and hard work through his endeavours. Jim concluded his career with the provincial government in senior leadership positions as Acting Deputy Minister of Agriculture and later Deputy Minister of Rural Affairs. Jim was known for his leadership, ethics, hard work and problem-solving skills. Following retirement from the government he continued to contribute by starting his Project Management Company, EXP Consulting Limited. He led agricultural development projects around the world and provided project management education to grow the profession.
He was an avid volunteer for his profession and community including Lakeview United Church, a Cub Leader, started a community baseball league to include every child who wanted to play, Regina Speed Skating Club builder & coach, President & Fellow of the Agriculture Institute of Canada, 4-H Club, Member of Hall of Fame for Saskatchewan Agriculture and much more.
He was an exceptional competitive skeet shooter and still holds World Records in 12, 28 and 410 gauges as well as the High Overall score for his age category of Super Veteran -an accomplishment that reflected the determination, discipline, and focus that characterized so much of his life.
Yet, for all of his professional accomplishments and personal achievements, his greatest source of pride was his family. He was devoted to his three children and took immense pleasure in watching them grow, succeed, and build their own lives. He spent countless hours volunteering in their activities, mostly speed skating. Their happiness and success were always among his highest priorities. He was a loving and steadfast presence in their lives, offering encouragement, wisdom, and support whenever it was needed.
Those who knew him will remember his strong character, his generosity, his quiet determination, and his ability to make a lasting impression on the people around him. His faith and his connection to his community were also important parts of his life.
A life spanning a century gave him the opportunity to witness enormous changes in the world, but the values that guided him remained constant: serve others, work hard, stay true to your principles, and cherish your family.
He leaves behind a legacy that reaches far beyond his many accomplishments. It lives on in his children, grandchildren, family, friends, and in all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his children, Craig (Brenda) Webster of Ottawa, Stuart (Carey) Webster of Portland, Oregon and Brenda (Tim) Comfort of Saskatoon; his grandchildren, Kirk, Troy, Derek, Senya, Milo, Marcus, Jordan, Joshua, Linsi and Matthew; his sister, Shirley Harper of Toronto. He was predeceased by his son Warren Webster, his wife Jean, parents Oliver and Bella Webster, Sister Phyllis Chapman (Bob), brother Ray Webster (Shirley), his Brothers-in-Law Stan Harper and Bill Robinson (Theresa).
We would like to thank the Skeet community for the years of friendship & support, as well as Veterans Affairs, the Primrose Chateau staff, Golden Home Wellness and Palliative Team that helped ensure his quality of life during recent years.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 12, at 10:00 a.m. at Saskatoon Funeral, 338 4th Avenue North, Saskatoon. Burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to your community food bank.
He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
Rest in peace, Dad. Your life was a gift to all of us, and your legacy will live on through the family you loved so dearly.
