Alfred Gunsch

March 3, 1950 — January 6, 2026

It is with profound sadness the family of Alfred Gunsch announce his passing on January 6th, 2025, after a brief stay at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon.

Alfred was born on March 3rd 1950 to parents Ferdinand and Ruth Gunsch. He spent his childhood with his five siblings Ben, Eric, Erna, Arnold, and Harvey in the Thorsby, Alberta area, where his strong family values were shaped and remained with him throughout his life.

With a deep love for the road, Alfred-known to many as "Al"-began his working life as a trucker, logging innumerable miles and travelling to countless destinations. The call of the open prairies eventually led him to Glenside, where he became a grain buyer. It was there he met his life partner, Elaine, and together they raised their four children.

In 1988, the family relocated to Robsart, where Alfred took on a position with the Rural Municipality Of Reno. Over the years, Alfred and Elaine built many lasting friendships and enjoyed a peaceful life in the deep south, a place that held special meaning for them. Later, they moved to Riverhurst, where his R.M. duties continued.

After 18 years, Alfred and Elaine made their final move to the Borden area, settling on the acreage with Dan and Alana. There, they found great joy in watching their two grandsons grow into young men, while continuing to enjoy the quiet beauty and calm of the prairies Alfred so dearly loved.

Al was a member of both Elk's and Lion's and assisted with numerous community activities. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, devotion to family, appreciation for the land, and the steady presence he brought to the lives of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of sharing in his life.

Left to mourn are Alfred's wife of 44 years Elaine, His children Tim Morse (Shannon), Candace (Calvin) Wankel, Holly (Jeff) Vollmer and Dan (Alana) Gunsch. His cherished grandchildren Elliott, Gillian, Tianna, Alex and Max. Great grandchild Rhett. His siblings Erna Stillet, Arnold (Linda) Grohn, and Harvey (Rhonda) Gunsch and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the Warman Homecare Services for their dedication and care and to all the healthcare workers at St. Paul's Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers please consider making a donation to the Borden Volunteer Fire Department
