Alvina was born on February 17, 1965, at Carrot River Hospital to her loving parents, John and Stella McKay. She was raised in Red Earth Cree Nation alongside her sisters, where she built strong family ties and lifelong memories.
Alvina graduated from the J.W. Head Memorial Education Centre in 1985, alongside her then future husband Darren K. Head. Dedicated to lifelong learning, she furthered her education and obtained her bachelor's degree in Education in 2005. She went on to enjoy a rewarding career in education, teaching for over 20 years, and making a positive impact on the lives of many students.
Alvina loved travelling with her family and sisters, creating cherished memories wherever they went. She was an enthusiastic supporter of the Edmonton Oilers and enjoyed attending NHL games. In her free time, she found joy in golfing, crafting, shopping, cooking, and baking for special occasions such as Christmas, Easter, birthdays, and family gatherings.
Above all, Alvina treasured her family. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and took every opportunity to visit them, sharing her love, wisdom, and warmth.
Alvina leaves treasured memories:
Her beloved husband, Darren K. Head;
Her children, Delphine Head, Kimberly J. Bear (Craig), and Denise McKay (Arthur);
Her cherished grandchildren, Brianna Bear, Aether Head, Addison McKay, Daenyra McKay, and Daeron McKay.
Her sisters, Linda Head, Amelia Whitehead (Fred), Julia McKay, Selma Bignell (Douglas), and Roseanne Daniels (Robert);
Her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Derrick Head (Cindy), Wilbert Head (Janet), Randall Head (Sherilyn), and Anita McKay (Myles);
Along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, former students, colleagues, and community members whose lives were touched by her kindness, wisdom, and generosity.
Alvina was predeceased by:
Her loving parents, John and Stella McKay;
Her beloved son, Deron Head;
Her cherished grandchildren, Baby Bear, J.T. Bear, and Baby McKay;
Her sisters, Joyce Moore and Maureen Genaille;
Her parents-in-law, Hector and Catherine Head;
Her sisters-in-law, Janice Whitehead and Caroleen Bast;
Her brothers-in-law, Raymond Head, Matthew Bignell, and Bernard Moore
As well as her beloved aunties, uncles, nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives who welcomed her home before her.
There will be a Wake starting at 4 PM Tuesday, June 9 at Mayfair United Church. The Funeral Service will be at 11 AM Thursday, June 11 at Mayfair United Church followed by the burial at Woodlawn Cemetery.
