Arie died peacefully on December 6th, 2024 surrounded by his six children at Diamond House in Warman, Saskatchewan
Arie was the youngest child born to Arie and Adriana Maria den Hoed on January 4,1930 in Krimpen a/d Yssel, Netherlands. Arie is survived by six children: Adriana, Linda (Marshall), Arie Jr. (Leslie), Rick (Kim), Elsa (Rob) and Tim (Karen). Grandfather to Nikki, Jill, Luke, Sean, Katrina, Patrick, Christopher, Brianna, Clark, Rachelle, Carson, Rylan and Avery. Great Opa to Clive, Pierce, Maeve, Eve, Courtney, Nash, Beau, Leo, Hollyn, Isaiah, Liz, Jagger, Karter, Lexie, Annie, and Kallistus. Great great grandfather to Arabella. Dad was predeceased by his loving wife Adrie, his Mother and Father, siblings Rienus, Bep, Hannie, Nico, step father Willian Borsje and 6 step siblings.
Arie came over to Canada in 1950, and brought over his fiancee, Adrie in 1952; they were married June 25, 1952. In early 1953, they moved to their new home in Saskatoon, and started up Dutch Growers Garden Center in Sutherland. Dad had an amazing life, starting his family roots in the Nursery, which is still a successful family business here in Saskatoon and Regina. Dad and Mom were a strong team, working hard to build up their family business. They raised their children to have a good work ethic, a strong faith and good family values. Dad had a deep passion for his work and worked side by side with the family, being a wonderful mentor to us all. Over the many years, it was good for all of us to see the strength of love and faith our Mom and Dad had that blessed us all growing up. Sunday was always a special time for us as a family as we played and prayed together.
Dad enjoyed serving his community as a Boy Scout Leader, Elder and Sunday School Superintendent at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, as well as being a member and President of the Saskatchewan and Canadian Nursery Trades Association. Dad was a lifelong honorary member of the Saskatoon Rotary Club, especially enjoying the fellowship around fundraising and participating socially. Dad was an avid stamp collector with a huge collection of stamps from around the world, especially flowers. Dad touched so many lives in his own special way at the business, at church, and in service groups with his humor, his songs, his strong faith and his love for his family and business.
Travelling was such an adventure for Mom and Dad as they travelled in their RV across North America before settling in Hemet, California for the winters. They took many trips and cruises to Europe, Costa Rica, the Caribbean, Australia, New Zealand, Alaska, Hawaii, Japan and Israel. They both loved bird watching, hiking, choir concerts and making lifelong friends. We have over 100 photo albums to show for it!
Dad was always a great support to us all and he loved and prayed for his family daily. We will always be grateful to the Lord for the wonderful memories that will bring us all much joy and peace.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Sutherland Evangelical Church (110-104th Street) on Friday, December 13th, 2024 at 1:30 pm Thank you to Diamond House for their excellent care of our Dad and the whole family. Special thank you to Pastor Dale Doerksen for his Pastoral Care for our father. In Lieu of flowers, please donate to Choc la Cure or to the Saskatoon Christian School.
"A Limb has fallen from the Family Tree, that says Grieve not for Me. Remember the Best Times, the Laughter, the Songs, the Good Life and Faith I lived while I was Strong."
