Barrett Andrew Rankin

February 16, 1983 to June 17, 2024

Barrett was born on February 16, 1983, two years after his big brother Derrick. Barrett loved living on the farm, that allowed the brothers many opportunities to explore their world as children.

He attended Milden Composite School, a highlight of that was being chosen to participate in the Canadian Costal Safari Program at Barkely Sound, BC while in grade 5. Following graduation, Barrett chose to work for a year at Flexicoil, before entering the University of Saskatchewan. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 2008. While attending University, Barrett had the opportunity to take a semester in Sweden, and later participating in a month-long agricultural experience in Ethiopia. In 2011, Barrett earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Agribusiness.

Barrett's career path took him to a variety of employment opportunities. During university he worked the summers with Bayer Crop Science. After graduation he was fortunate to work with multiple agricultural companies; Syngenta, Jessiman Agro, Bayer, BASF and eventually to FMC as a Regional Sales Manager. It was over this time that Barrett developed many relationships with colleagues and friends across Western Canada. He maintained those relationships faithfully.

More friendships were formed as a result of Barrett's passion for sports. He loved hockey! Barrett played minor hockey with Milden, Dinsmore, Outlook and Rosetown. He had the privilege of playing AAA Midget hockey with the Beardy's Blackhawks out of Duck Lake, SK.  After high school he moved into the Junior B league with the Warman Crusaders, and during university he played Senior in Lucky Lake. He continued with rec hockey through his adult years. More friends were added to his life as he played baseball with several different teams, and of course slow pitch. He loved golfing and all the great times with his friends and colleagues.

His greatest passion was for family and friends, of which he had countless. He was given the honorary title of “uncle” to his friends' children, who adored being in his presence and in whom he received so much joy. There was nothing he enjoyed more than cooking a gourmet meal for all his people. He was dedicated to his jobs and his co-workers well-being.

Thank you to his friends who shared the following memories of Barrett:

Barrett's life was a testament to the joy and love he brought into the lives of those around him. His love for life was evident in his contagious smile, deep thunderous laugh, and the way he cherished every moment with his friends. He was a friend who made everyone feel loved and included, always ready to lend a hand or share a smile. Barrett was everyone's favorite source of advice on any subject - known for his intelligence and wealth of knowledge and ability to offer thoughtful and helpful guidance on any matter. He was the friend who would call just to check in, talk sports, or share a laugh over the last outing. Barrett was genuine and lived life to the fullest. His sense of humor, quick wit, and ability to make you smile was a gift he shared generously. Barrett's presence in his friends' lives was profound – being there for all the important moments, whether a wedding, a birth, attending sports events for his friends' kids, or during tough times. He was successful, loved and selfless. Although the world feels quieter without him, his beautiful smile and laughter live on in our memories.

“Grief is not a sign of weakness, nor a lack of faith... it is the price of love”. This quote resonates deeply as we remember Barrett. Rest easy Barrett , your legacy of family, friendship, and joy lives on.

Barrett was predeceased by his grandparents George and Mabel Rankin, Harold and Marion Johnson, and most recently by his beloved Auntie Gloria.

Left to mourn his death and rejoice in his life are brother Derrick and parents Howard Rankin and Anne Rankin; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins and the children of all.
