Barry was born in Roblin, Manitoba to loving parents Ardo and Rosella Kendel. His education as a child started in Roblin, MB and finished in MacNutt, SK. From there he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Regina. This passion of his continued as he started working for Ag Neon Art (a sign company) in the 1970's to 1995. Barry then switched careers and started working for Western Urethane where he continued the rest of his working career before retiring. He was a work-a-holic who only retired due to health complications.

Barry is remembered for his stoic sense of humour, funny impersonations (Donald Duck is a well known favourite), love of dogs and thoughtful gift giving. His nephew remembers this thoughtfulness from a young child. Barry had bought him his first skateboard and it became a major passion throughout his teenage and adult years. Barry also threw epic Halloween costume parties. These included a witches caldron punch bowl complete with dry ice "smoking" from the caldron. People always left these parties with many memories (and many hangovers).

His passion for art extended to his love of the outdoors. He grew impressive gardens where many people received the fruits of his labour and enjoyed meals cooked with his home grown vegetables. He hunted, fished and played outdoor sports. Golfing, fastball and Slo-pitch were his main summer sports. As a young teenager, he was a very successful baseball pitcher. As an adult, Barry (along with his friend Lynn aka Logan) coached a women's fastball team named Logan's Angels. He played countless Slo-pitch co-ed tournaments on weekends and was a part of a men's Slo-Pitch team named the J-Hawks.

During the winter months he played curling and ice hockey. As a young adult, Barry played on a competitive senior men's ice hockey team called the MacNutt Kings. During his later adult years, curling continued to be a passion of his and was known to enjoy a Scotch and gingerale or a bottle of Boh at the end of the curling game. Throughout his curling career, Barry and his three brothers had a men's curling team at the Hub City Curling Club and he also played in mixed leagues at the Granite Curling Club. Barry was remembered on the ice as a competitor who enjoyed sports but also enjoyed winning (which he did quite often).

Although gone from this life, he is not forgotten.

"A limb has fallen from the family tree that says grieve not for me. Remember the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I lived while I was strong".
