It is with heavy hearts and great sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Barry James Kotania on June 11th, 2026.
He will be greatly missed by his son, Brad (Larissa), grandson, Kirby, his dog, Duke, his mother, Beverley, his brothers, Wayne (Maiya) and Darren (Melissa), and his many nephews and nieces. He is predeceased by his father, Chester.
Barry was born and raised in Montreal before moving to Calgary, where he had his son, Brad. Barry lived in Calgary most of his life until a few years ago, when he moved to Saskatoon to spend more time with his new grandson, Kirby.
Over his life, he explored different career paths before settling into sales, which he flourished in due to his warm and genuine personality. Barry formed an authentic connection with everyone he met, and his customers often became friends.
In the last couple of years, Barry found his dream job working at the Harley-Davidson dealership in Saskatoon, where he was able to talk about motorcycles all day long.
When Barry wasn't on the road with his bike or making new friends, he was with his son and family. A couple of years ago, Barry got a new role as grandpa and showed up in every way he could. Whether it was helping to finish a nursery, going to monster truck shows, watching toddler soccer and gymnastics, or simply hanging out, Barry would be anywhere his grandson, Kirby, was.
Barry was always extremely generous, especially with his time. If you had something you needed, Barry offered to help before you could even ask. Nothing was ever a burden, and he was genuinely happy to be there.
Barry will be so deeply missed by his family, friends, and anyone who met him.
We ask anyone who would like to join his family for a celebration of life in Montreal on July 11th, 2026, with further details to follow.
