ELIZABETH LOUISE PENNY
“BETTY”

It is with a great sense of loss and sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Betty at the age of 91 on October 27, 2023. She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 69 years, Ray Penny, and their four children and families; son, David (Maryann) Penny; daughters, Catherine (Duane) Vincent, Linda (Mike) Calow and Susan (Martin) Cooper; seven grandchildren, Matthew Penny, Ryan (Tylar) Vincent, Nicole Vincent, Tori Abrahamson, Shawn Abrahamson, Taralyn Cooper and Taylor Cooper; her sister, Mae Cameron; brothers-in-law, Jack (Jackie) Penny and Ken (Gladys) Penny; and sister in law, Marjorie (Larry) Middleton. She was pre-deceased by her parents, Ted and Evelyn Evoy.

Betty was born in Regina, Saskatchewan on April 30, 1932. She was raised and schooled in and around Regina and attended Success Business School in Regina. Her first employment was with the Royal Bank. Betty and Ray were married in September 1954. Three years later, Ray was transferred to Saskatoon and this became their home where they raised their four children.

Betty and Ray were faithful members of St. Martin’s United Church for many years, where Betty taught Sunday school and volunteered on many committees. More recently, they enjoyed attending McClure United Church. Betty volunteered as a Snowy Owl Brownie leader as well as at the John Lake School Library.

Betty was an accomplished seamstress and took pride in the many dresses and costumes she made for the family. She was very artistic and enjoyed oil painting and ceramics. She loved to cook and even created her own cookbook called “Betty’s Favourites” which she shared with family and friends. Some of her favourite past times included bowling and golf with her best friends. Betty and Ray enjoyed many winters at their home in Texas in the 1980’s and took numerous trips and vacations to locations in the USA, Europe, South America and Canada.

Some of Betty’s most cherished memories included family trips to the cabin at Katepwa Beach, and numerous camping holidays with the children. She enjoyed hosting social gatherings, especially when they included singing around the piano with family and friends.

Betty will be missed because of her closeness with family and friends alike. We wish her well on her journey with our Lord and may she now sing with the angels.

A Celebration of Betty’s Life will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2023 at McClure United Church - 4025 Taylor St E, Saskatoon, SK. with lunch to follow.
