With sadness, we share the passing of our dad, Cameron (“Cam”) Archibald, on March 10, 2026, at the age of 96.
Dad was born in Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, on December 23, 1929, to Charlie and Mabel Archibald. He cherished his upbringing on the family farm and worked both at home and on neighboring farms until moving to Prince Albert in November 1951 to begin his career at the Prince Albert Co‑op.
In 1956, he married Florence Ellen Johnson, the love of his life. Together they built a beautiful life and raised the six of us—three girls and three boys. In 1970, Dad accepted a promotion with Federated Co‑op, and we moved to Saskatoon, where he continued a dedicated 33‑year career within the Co‑op retail system before retiring in 1984.
After retirement, Mom and Dad returned to the family farm in Steep Creek and built the country home that would become the heart of so many family memories. For 27 years they tended an abundant garden, kept a meticulous yard, and embraced life with a spirit of adventure—travelling, skiing, golfing, ice fishing, dancing, and welcoming friends and family. In 2011, they moved back to Saskatoon to Circle Drive Place, where they quickly formed another cherished community.
Dad loved the outdoors. Our family’s summer holidays were spent camping and taking road trips. He enjoyed countless canoe trips with the Boy Scouts and with his sons. Mom and Dad loved to travel. Dad’s favorite destinations were his beloved Ireland and the homes of his children. A cherished memory was the pub in Hickory, North Carolina, which kept a pewter beer mug engraved just for him—ready each year for his St. Patrick’s Day visit.
A lifelong volunteer, Cam served as a Boy Scout leader for 17 years, a board member at Calvary United Church, and as a Residents’ Council member at Circle Drive Place.
Dad also adored the poetry of Robert Service. His ability to recite long verses from memory brought smiles to all of us and anyone lucky enough to hear him.
Dad is survived by his beloved wife of 69 years, Florence; his children Kim (Judy), Mary Ellen, Colleen (Brian), Robin (Chris), Craig, and Diane (Max); nine grandchildren—Jennifer (Jon), Jerith (Trish), Jonathan, Breanne (Mathieu), Madison (Greg), Chloe (Rob), Ben (Mel), Nicola (Matt), and Charly; eleven great‑grandchildren; and his sisters Ruth Braaten and Beth (Jim) Laroque. He was predeceased by his parents; his brother Ernie; his sisters Kathleen Cook and Lavina Baldwin; and his son‑in‑law, Kip Gothard.
Dad will be remembered for his kindness, steadiness, warmth and humour. His gentle leadership and his unwavering love for his family shaped our lives in ways we will always be grateful for. We will miss him dearly, and we will carry him with us—always.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the summer of 2026. In lieu of flowers, donations in Dad’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
