It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Great-Grandmother, Carmela Iosca on June 11, 2025. Carmela was the beloved mother of Francesca (Roberto) Pagnin and Rosemarie (Brent) Nisbet. She was a loving grandmother to Rob Pagnin (Brittany) and Cristina Pagnin (Jesse Poncelet), Sarah Nisbet and Mark Nisbet (Kirsten). Great grandmother to Madyson and Dean Nisbet-Janzen.
Carmela was born on August 10, 1927, in Pietrapertosa, Italy. Carmela was the youngest in the family of eight children, four brothers and four sisters. She was married to Vincenzo Iosca on October 18, 1948. Vincenzo immigrated to Canada in 1950. On April 5, 1955, Carmela, with daughter Francesca, were both reunited with Vincenzo in Canada. Another Daughter, Rosemarie was born in Saskatoon. Carmela resided in Saskatoon until her passing.
Carmela will be fondly remembered for her infectious smile that she so willingly shared with all who knew her. Carmela was employed at Express Bakery for a very brief period of time. She was grateful to be given the choice of being a stay-at-home mom. Carmela was a dedicated wife and mother.
Her homemade bread, pizza, focaccia and cavatelli pasta were a source of joy to family and friends. Carmela's art of embroidery was demonstrated in her many doilies, tablecloths, sheets, pillows and linens. She loved her flower garden. Flowers of every shape and colour adorned her yard. Vivid memories of her wearing a huge straw sun hat while she tenderly nurtured her plants will always be cherished.
In 2005, Carmela moved to her beautiful suite at Oliver Place. There she spent 19 happy years. She was befriended by the many wonderful residents of Oliver Place. Special thanks to the staff for the great care that our mother received at this facility.
Carmela was a quiet unassuming individual with a gentle soul who tread ever so softly on the face of God's Earth. Her love of Mary and the rosary was exemplary. We love you, and we will miss you, Mamma, Nonna and Bisnonna
Carmela was predeceased by her parents Donato & Rosa Santomauro, her husband Vincenzo Iosca, grandson Vincent Lindsay Nisbet, brothers Pasquale Santomauro (Saskatoon), Carmine Santomauro (Italy), Ciccilo Santomauro (Italy), and Aniello Santomauro (Italy), and sisters Maddalena Mazza (Italy) Raffaela Vernucci (Italy), and Teresa Carbonella (Italy).
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 17, 2025 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Rev. Father Stefano Penna presiding.
Thank you to Dr. Bello and team at the Royal University Hospital Emergency Department for your kindness and compassion extended to our family at this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations in Carmela's honour, can be made to:
