Chris Ridis

April 2, 1929 — September 18, 2025

It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Ridis, who entered into eternal rest on September 18 2025, at the age of 96.

Chris was born in Varvara, Edipsos, Evia, Greece, and immigrated to Canada in 1955. After time spent in various cities, he made Saskatoon, Saskatchewan his home, where he built a life marked by resilience, faith, and creativity.

A true artist at heart, Chris found his passion in hairdressing. His career began in Athens and carried him through several European countries before bringing his talent to Canada. His gift for beauty and skill with his craft earned him worldwide recognition. In 1961, he proudly placed first at the International Beauty Show, receiving both the Master Trophy in Hair Shaping and the World Supreme Trophy in Permanent Waving. During the 1960s, he was one of ten members of the Canadian National Hair Fashion Committee. Later, back in Saskatoon, Chris continued his success by opening several salons and, in time, the well-known Crossroads Restaurant. His creativity, determination, and work ethic made him not only successful but deeply respected.

Faith was at the very center of Chris’s life. As a devoted member of the Greek Orthodox Church, he attended services every Sunday without fail until his health prevented him. He was proud of his Greek heritage and even more proud to live as a man of God. His faith, paired with his love for family and community, defined him. Chris will be remembered as a strong, loving, and generous man whose resilience carried him through every season of life.

He is survived by his granddaughters Eleni and Eleftheria (Levi) Karoutis, his son Mark (Valerie) Jarrett and grandchildren Mollie, Katie, and Zach, and his sisters Eleni and Georgina. He is now reunited with his daughter Magdilin and his son George, whose memory was always close to his heart. We find comfort in knowing they are together once more.

The family wishes to express sincere gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Royal University Hospital for their kindness, patience, and care during Chris’s final days. A special thank you as well to Father John, who visited Chris in the hospital to pray with him and bring the comfort of the church when he could no longer be there himself.

There will be a short Prayer Service for Chris on Sunday, September 21st at 7:00pm at Saskatoon Funeral Home. (338 4th Avenue North)

A Funeral Service will be held at Koimisis Tis Theotokou Greek Orthodox Church on Monday September 22nd at 10:00am, followed by interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, a cause close to Chris’s heart as he faced these struggles in his own life.

Chris’s story is one of courage, creativity, devotion, and love. His memory will live on in the lives of all who knew him, and his legacy will be carried forward with every act of faith, kindness, and resilience we share in his honor.
