Colin Michael Sargent

Professor Colin Sargent passed away peacefully at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon on February 24, 2021.  He is survived by his partner, Lynne Brewster; and daughter, Michelle and her husband Jim Oruski, and their two sons Cole and Cody.

Colin grew up in England and graduated with a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.  He was a Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan.  Colin’s classes were always entertaining and challenging.  It was remarked by students that Colin “looks like Santa, but marks like Scrooge”.  Colin initiated the Big Sister Little Sister program designed to encourage and support female students in engineering, and the Second Wind Club to help support mature engineering students.  In 2000, Colin received the Master Teacher Award from the University of Saskatchewan.

Colin and Lynne built a cabin together in Northern Saskatchewan.  Together they enjoyed their time at “the lake”, gardening, and enjoying time there with friends and family.  Alvena was another special place in Colin’s heart, where he enjoyed relaxing, and gardening, and shared his fear of salamanders with his neighbors. Colin also enjoyed traveling, good food, a glass of wine, and good conversation which always included and required a good sense of humor.  His intelligence, wit, and generosity will be missed by many.
