Craig Anthony Harris passed away unexpectedly in Seattle, WA, USA on June 1, 2025 at the age of 53 years. His memory will be cherished by all who loved him.
Craig is survived by his wife Rebecca, son Oscar, parents Gordon and Beverly Harris, sister Sherri (Evan) Stephens, niece Amy (Michael) Kuziak and their son Milo; niece Mira (Keeghan) McLennan and their son Luca; brother-in-law Murray (Jaclyn) Dubray as well as numerous uncles, aunts, and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents-in-law Lester and Edna Dubray.
Craig was born on April 23, 1972, to Gordon and Beverly Harris in Lloydminster, Alberta/Saskatchewan. Craig’s childhood was spent with family at its center. Fun times were had hanging out with his sister and cousins, both in Lloydminster and the family farm. Craig also enjoyed helping his mom and dad at home and at the family business - his work ethic was second to none.
As Craig grew older, music became his obsession. He developed a love for hard rock/heavy metal in his early teens and the talent of the drummers in these bands inspired him. He was dedicated to his craft and many hours were spent in his family’s basement “rocking out” with his friends – but it was obvious that one band and one drummer stood out above the rest, and that was RUSH and their drummer Neil Peart. RUSH songs were constantly being performed in the Harris home and for the rest of his life.
Craig attended school from K-12 in Lloydminster and graduated from the Lloydminster Comprehensive High School in 1990. He went to the University of Saskatchewan and completed a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology. He followed that up with a move across the country and further pursuit of his passion: graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Music) from Concordia University in Montreal, Quebec.
Craig thoroughly enjoyed life in the city of Montreal - having little knowledge of the French language, he picked it up easily during the years in which he worked there in the pharmaceutical industry. He enjoyed the hot summers with endless festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival. He also loved the gastronomy of the Quebec culture including the local markets packed with delicious food year round. After discovering Jacques Pepin on PBS, he was inspired to hone his cooking skills and became an accomplished home chef.
After a long courtship, Craig and Rebecca were married in 2003. The year after their wedding, Craig and Rebecca obtained employment in the pharmaceutical/bio-tech field in New Jersey, USA, where they spent the next 8 years building their careers, their first home, and exploring the sights/sounds of the East coast. Craig filled their home and yard with gorgeous flowering perennials and countless delicious week-end meals followed by impromptu jam sessions in the basement with friends and visiting family.
In 2011, Craig and Rebecca moved to Seattle, WA where they both continued to work within the pharmaceutical/bio-tech industry. Craig and Rebecca enjoyed an active Seattle lifestyle and settled happily into life in the Pacific Northwest.
The birth of Craig and Rebecca’s son Oscar in 2014 marked a joyful new chapter. In time, Craig became a devoted stay-at-home dad and poured all his energy into parenting with love, curiosity, and endless creativity. He supported Oscar through daily adventures, walks, and most recently, a hybrid homeschooling/public school education. They were a special pair – they adored each other and had many inside stories and jokes.
Craig will be dearly missed for so many reasons including his warmth, his sense of humour, his talents, and his never-ending devotion and loyalty to those he loved. He was a loving father, husband, son and brother.
*Donations on behalf of Craig’s memory may be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation, the American Heart Association, Autism Services of Saskatoon, or Washington Autism Alliance & Advocacy (Seattle, Washington).
