The family of Cyril Allan Rouse announce his peaceful passing on August 6, 2024, at the age of 97 after a life fully lived.
Cy wore many hats over the years including being a professional hockey player, real estate developer, entrepreneur, community builder, world traveller, gardener, prankster and family man.
He was born in Kindersley on August 27, 1926, to Allan and Ruby Rouse. He moved to Saskatoon where he attended Buena Vista elementary school, and later attended Nutana Collegiate Institute where he developed a lifelong group of friends "The Diamonds". Their friendships were rich and filled with frequent gatherings, generous splattering of laugher, songs and spirits.
Cy's athleticism was evident when he participated in baseball, hockey, track and field, curling and golfing. He was a gifted left winger in hockey which led him to a professional career in Canada and the United States. He played in such cities as Indianapolis, Philadelphia, Vancouver and Seattle. He was inducted into the Saskatoon Hall of Fame in 1992 as a player with the Saskatoon Quakers 1951-52 championship team.
Following his hockey career Cy and his wife Margaret settled in Saskatoon where they raised their four children. Cy obtained an accounting diploma from the University of Saskatchewan, he focused on building his business career and started his real estate company, Universal Reality.
After Margaret's passing, in 1974, Cy met and married Doreen Millar. They enjoyed 48 years of travel, volunteering, friendships, family reunions, and adventures in both Florida and Waskesiu.
Cy valued the importance of education and instilled this goal into all his children. Cy was a real gentleman, a hard worker, he had sharp wit and a great sense of humour. He had a strong work ethic and embraced the joys of family.
Cy will be missed by his wife Doreen, his children, Cheryl (Colin), Patti (Peter), James (Janet), Christy (Greg), and his stepchildren Cathie, Carol (Bud), John (Barb). He was blessed with the joys of grandchildren: Jill, Jocelyn, Sydney, Scott, Brett, Jaclyn, Dylan, Tyler, Stephanie, Brandon, Ryan, Kyle, Claire, Arden, Blair, Graeme, Erin, and 28 great grandchildren.
Cy was predeceased by his spouse Margaret, parents Ruby and Allan, brothers Ken and Vernon (infancy).
