In Loving Memory of David Chick
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David Chick on June 17, 2026.
David leaves behind the love of his life and devoted wife of over 50 years, Yvette, along with his children, Sharon (Claire), Paul (Moira), Yasmin (Dustin), Shereen (Eric), Latara (Ryan), and Gareth (Jayda), who were the pride and joy of his life.
He was a cherished grandfather to Jenna, Karlie (Tom), Jade, Payge (Dale), Maddison (Derick), Cyrus, Baylee, Keira, Owen, Raylynn, Austin, James, Amellia, George, Leo, Gray, Lucas, Avery, Faith, Daisy, Eddie, Hazel and Simon, each of whom brought him immeasurable happiness and countless reasons to smile.
David is also survived by his sisters, Diane and Priscilla, and his brother Jonathan, as well as many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.
Born and raised in Wales, David never lost his pride in his Welsh roots. No matter where life took him, Wales remained close to his heart. He carried that pride with him every day, sharing stories, traditions, and a love for his homeland with anyone willing to listen.
He was known by many names from David, Dave, Dafydd, Dai, husband, father, grandfather, tiger, pa, papa, coach, chief running water, and friend.
David was a man of many passions. He loved boxing so much that he founded a local boxing club in the community, creating opportunities and lasting memories for countless young people. Even today, years later, people continue to stop his children and grandchildren to share stories of the impact he had on their lives through the sport he loved so much.
He was a devoted fan of the Edmonton Oilers and could often be found cheering them on with enthusiasm and unwavering loyalty. He loved rock and roll, especially Elvis Presley and Shakin' Stevens, and when the music started, David came alive. Together, David and Yvette could light up a dance floor. Their joy, laughter, and effortless dancing would often bring an entire room to a standstill.
David was a hardworking and dedicated man who spent his entire career at PCS, now Nutrien. He was proud of his work, proud of his colleagues, and grateful for the friendships he built over the years. His strong work ethic and commitment to providing for his family were qualities that defined him.
Those who knew David knew he had a wonderful sense of humour. He was always acting silly, often putting random things on his head just to make people laugh. David also had incredible style. He loved dressing up in his suits, complete with his big gold rings and chains, and every now and then he would break out his blue suede shoes. He was the coolest and, in our eyes, the most handsome man around.
He loved Coronation Street, music, UFC, wrestling, darts, pool, shuffleboard, silly T-shirts, and a good laugh. David and Yvette shared a deep love for animals and birds-from penguins and hummingbirds to their own beloved dogs, and everything in between.
His home was always open, whether it was for sharpening skates for the neighbourhood kids or welcoming friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, neighbours, and family. Everyone who walked through the door was treated like family. David had a gift for making people feel comfortable, accepted, and valued from the moment they arrived.
He could be a bit of a secret agent at times, often disappearing without much explanation. But more often than not, we'd discover he was at Nanny's house, sharing a cup of tea, a conversation, or lending a hand with whatever needed to be done.
Above all else, David loved his family. There was nothing he would not have done for Yvette, his children, or his grandchildren. His love was steady, unconditional, and ever-present. He taught us through his actions what loyalty, generosity, and devotion truly look like.
While our hearts are broken as we lay him to rest, we are grateful that he is now at peace. We will miss his laughter, his stories, his dancing, his wisdom, and his unwavering love. Though he is no longer with us in person, his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched and, in the family, he loved so dearly.
And as David often wrote in cards and said to those he loved: C.O.M.M.A.N.D.0. (constantly on my mind and never dying out)
Byddwn ni bob amser yn dy garu di!
