LEDGERWOOD, David Wayne

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of David Ledgerwood. Born on Sept. 6, 1944 in Camrose, AB to Nathaniel and Irene Ledgerwood, David was the third of five children in the family. He was baptized and later confirmed in the Lutheran Church, attended school in Camrose until Grade XI, but finished high school in MacLennan, AB where his family had moved. It was there that he attained the highest marks in the county on the Grade XII Departmentals. David often said how grateful he was to grow up in a small town where he was able to participate in so many activities, including baseball, basketball, hockey, tennis, golf, and the school band. After high school, David opted to enter the field of accounting and started the five-year articling program in Peace River, AB. After three years, he transferred to Edmonton where, through mutual friends, he met the love of his life, Beverley Margaret Rose Ruff. They were married on December 23, 1967. The next summer they moved to Nakusp and shortly after to Revelstoke, BC where their first daughter, Kathy, was born in 1969. He had achieved his CA and preferring life on the prairies, took a position with the Income Tax Department in Saskatoon. A second daughter, Kari, was born in 1971. After two years with the government, David went back into public practice, eventually ending up as a tax specialist partner with an international firm, but in 1985 decided to open his own practice. He was always very proud of his Chartered Accountant designation.

A quiet and soft-spoken man, David was an avid reader and especially liked philosophical and metaphysical subjects. He joined the Rosicrucian Order (AMORC) and attained a life membership there. He also became a Freemason (A.F. & A.M. Imperial Lodge #60) where he acted as Master three times. David also loved to golf, although he never had a chance to play as much as he wanted, until he retired. It was a great disappointment when he realized he was no longer able to play the game this summer, which led to selling the cottage at Manitou Beach.

David and Beverley's favourite trips were driving to the Far North, visiting the Yukon, Alaska and NWT. It was the beauty, quiet solitude, and friendly people that were the magnet to this part of the country.

David is survived by his wife of 56 years, Beverley, his daughters Kathy (Saskatoon) and Kari and her two children, Kendra and Christopher Olsen (Banff). Also surviving are his brother, Graham Ledgerwood (Costa Mesa, CA), and sister, Diane Lamarche (Surrey, BC), eight nieces and three nephews, brother-in-law Edwin Klarenbach and brother-in-law Emery Ruff and his wife Karen.

Predeceasing David are his father, Nathaniel, his mother, Irene, younger brother Michael, older sister Natalie and sister-in-law Sylvia Klarenbach.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Hospital Foundation, RUH Foundation, Shriners Hospital or any charity of your choice. David's family is extremely grateful for the kind, loving care he received during and after several medical issues, and particularly during his final day in ICU.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 6th, 2024 at Grace-Westminster United Church at 1:30 pm.

Masonic Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Church by the A.F. & A.M. Imperial Lodge #60.
