After a courageous thirty year battle with cancer, it is with profound sadness that we announce that the death of Diane Dechka occurred on Friday February 7, 2023 with family by her side in Saskatoon, SK at the age of 75 years. Diane is survived by her loving family; husband Steven Dechka, son Kristofer (Sara) Dechka, son Jordan Dechka and grandchildren Ryder, Izzy, Lil, Cruz, and Addy Dechka. She was pre-deceased by her parents Mike and Frances Shawaga and her borther Ernie Shawaga. Diane was born in Melfort, SK, and raised in Saskatoon where she attended Brunskill Elementary School, Walter Murray Collegiate and the U of S College of Education. Diane loved children and was a natural at her career, teaching professionally in both Saskatoon and Ottawa and continuing to teach on a volunteer basis in both Tokyo and Singapore. Diane married her high school sweetheart, Steven Dechka, her husband of 56 years on August 26, 1967 at St. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church in Saskatoon. Steve’s career choice provide the opportunity to embrace and experience life in all parts of the world. Diane has lived in both Japan and Singapore and spent the majority of her adult years travelling while experiencing peoples, places and cultures. When she wasn’t travelling, she enjoyed fine wines, cooking and reading. Diane was loved by her close family who spent many years together at their cabin at Emma Lake enjoying beautiful Sunsets and full moons. In memory of Diane, for those so wishing, memorial donations made to the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic and the University Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family. An intimate family Funeral has taken place and a Celebration of Life is being planned for a future date. Condolences may be left and shared with the family at www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com.
