Donald Floyd Cousins

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Donald Floyd Cousins, son, brother, husband, father and grandpa. Don passed away on Oct. 24, 2026 at the Royal University Hospital at the age of 87.

Don was born and raised in Radville, Sask. Don attended the University of Denver in Denver, Colorado, where he met his wife, Kathy, and earned a degree in civil engineering. He worked in Denver as an engineer before he moved back to Canada. Don obtained his education degree and enjoyed a rewarding 31 years teaching at Colgate, Saskatchewan and in Saskatoon at Bedford Road and Walter Murray Collegiate. During the summer, like most teachers, he enjoyed numerous years of hail adjusting for Butler Byers Insurance.

Don's passion for athletics and his commitment to developing young people were defining parts of his life. He was one of the original individuals who helped establish the BRIT basketball tournament at Bedford Road Collegiate, serving as tournament chair for 21 years. His dedication to youth sports extended well beyond basketball. Throughout his coaching career, Don coached baseball, basketball, hockey, and football. In recognition of his contributions to athletics and his community, he was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame and the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame. He was also honored as the Kinsmen Sportsman of the Year in 1996. Beyond athletics and education, Don was deeply committed to the community through his involvement in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine Club.

Family was always an important part of Don's life. He shared 64 years of marriage with his loving wife, Kathy. Together, they raised a son and welcomed a daughter-in-law and two cherished grandsons. His love for his family was evident in the pride and affection with which he spoke of them. Don leaves a lasting legacy through the students he taught, the athletes he coached, the organizations he helped build, and most importantly, the family he loved so dearly.

He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

He is survived by his wife Kathy, son Todd (Kenapha), and grandsons Kai and Tayden. Predeceased by his parents (Floyd, Isabelle), brother (Tom), and sister (Shirley Jean).

A Celebration of Life for Don will be held in the Spring.

If you wish to celebrate Don's life and commitment to the community, please take an opportunity to go, watch and support the BRIT or your local community basketball, hockey, baseball, football or charity.
