Donald W. Goosen
December 8, 1940 – August 4, 2025

Don was predeceased by his parents, wife, and son. He is survived and missed by his children and their spouses, numerous grandchildren, sisters, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

Born in Saskatoon, Don spent his early years on the family farm until age 10, attending Hawoods School. After the family moved to Saskatoon, Don completed his education at Mayfair Elementary and Bedford Road Collegiate, all while continuing to help on the farm.

As a teenager, Don had many part-time jobs in the Mayfair area of Saskatoon. After high school, he began working at the Texaco on 33rd and Landa Autobody, where he became the Autobody Foreman. He left Landa Autobody to sell cars with his father at Mid-City Motors from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s. Dad was always mechanically inclined, and these three jobs in the auto industry cemented his love for automobiles. He sold many vehicles during this time, but he particularly liked the muscle cars of the late 60s and early 70s.

Ultimately, Don’s heart was always in farming. In 1972, he devoted himself fully to the land, remaining on the farm for the rest of his life. He cut his teeth on an AR John Deere tractor pulling a plow, packer and pony drill. He was a true steward of the land, trying to use every available acre while maintaining the integrity of the soil. Dad found peace and joy in a tractor, combine, or anything associated with the farm. Livestock also became a part of dad’s farming passion, which led to his children’s passion for all animals, big and small. Cattle, horses, and sheep found a kind and caring herdsman. He loved going to an auction, whether it was farm equipment or at Saskatoon Livestock Sales. He built and dispersed many herds of cattle. LOL

Don touched the lives of everyone he met—always a friend, always a mentor. He treasured a good coffee and a sweet treat shared with friends, and he left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

His family wished to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Cardiac Care Unit at RUH for the kindness and compassion they showed our father. You truly were amazing.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026. Further details will be announced at a later date.
