Donald Sparrow

February 4, 1949 — August 9, 2024

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Donald Keith Sparrow, who went to be with his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, on August 9th, 2024, after a brief illness.

Born in Saskatoon on February 4, 1949, Don's life was characterized by his relentless intellect, creativity, and a sharp wit that left an impression on everyone who knew him.

Don's career included time in both the construction industry and the taxicab business, but his true joy was found at home. For over 50 years he shared everything with Peggy, his spouse, friend, and great love of his life. Together, they lovingly restored their 100-year-old home, a project that allowed Don to channel his creativity and perfectionism into every detail.

He was also passionate about British motorcycles and had an enduring love of rock and roll music. Don and Peggy raised three beloved children: Shawna, Donald (Heather), and Christina. Don took immense pride in his children's talents and education as they pursued successful careers in law, visual art, and medicine. His home was a testament to their creativity, with the walls adorned with the paintings, drawings, and photographs lovingly crafted by his artistic children.

His life was further enriched by his four grandchildren: Annalea, Donovan, Shelby, and Daisy, each of whom he adored. Don always nurtured the dream of forming a family band, and was thrilled to see his grandchildren's shared passion for music. He took great joy in watching their progress as they eagerly took lessons, imagining the melodies they might one day create together.

Don was predeceased by his parents, Violet and Kenneth Sparrow, and his siblings Robert Sparrow (Iris), Elizabeth Saunders (Stuart), Ed Sparrow and brother in law Bud Stilling. He leaves behind his siblings Ada Stilling, Kathi Gelowitz, and Lori Heikoop (Martin), who, along with his extended family and friends, will deeply feel his loss.

Don took great comfort in being cared for by his loving daughter Christina, a nurse, who tenderly looked after him in his final days before he entered palliative care.

In accordance with Don's wishes, there will be no public funeral. A private family gathering will be held at a later date to honor his memory. Condolences can be sent via the Saskatoon Funeral Home website.

Don will be remembered for his fierce intelligence, creative spirit, and unforgettable sense of humor. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
