Douglas “Doug” Wayne Banzet
October 23, 1949 - July 31, 2023
It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Doug on July 31, 2023.
After spending his younger years in Vancouver, Doug moved to Calgary for work and then to Saskatoon where he immediately felt at home.
Recently he celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary with his beloved wife Adrienne. Doug’s greatest joy was his family, including his sons, Marc (Emily) and Daniel, and his precious grandchildren, Beatrice, Lillian and Benjamin. He is also survived by his mother Helen Banzet and siblings Robert (Kelly) Banzet and Karen (Romano) Acconci. He was recently predeceased by his father Louis “Bud” Banzet.
Doug had a long career in the Saskatoon business community. Until his retirement in 2020, he served as CFO of the Golden Opportunities Fund and COO of Westcap Mgt. Ltd. Earlier in his career, he managed savings and commercial lending at North West Trust and Credit Foncier. Doug was a champion of the economic potential of Saskatchewan and was involved in numerous projects in the province and across Western Canada, frequently helping small and medium sized businesses grow and succeed.
Doug was often reserved, but enjoyed spending time with people and engaging in lively discussions on topics of interest. He also loved planning trips and exploring new countries. His travels personally and professionally took him around the world, including China, Egypt, France, Japan, Scotland, Switzerland, Turkey and the Caribbean. Golf was a great passion for Doug. He joined Riverside Country Club in 1982, and met many lifelong friends there. He worked to perfect his swing and took great pride when he beat his handicap score, although never did get that hole-in-one. A keen sports fan, particularly of American and Canadian Football, he avidly watched the U of S Huskies and was a long time Saskatchewan Roughriders season ticket holder delighting in attending games with his son Dan and other friends and family.
Doug will be remembered by many for his mentorship and support. He was quick with sound advice, saw talent and potential, and took great joy in the accomplishments of others.
A Memorial Service is planned for 1:00 pm on August 24, 2023, at Ebenezer Baptist Church. A private Graveside Ceremony was held for Doug at Woodlawn Cemetery on August 8, 2023.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Saskatchewan’s Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital.
