Douglas "Doug" Jackson
1929 - 2025
With love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of Douglas "Doug" Jackson at the age of 96.
Doug lived a full, active, and independent life right up until shortly before his death. Born to Doug and Irma Jackson, he was predeceased by his parents, his sister Shirley Jackson, and his beloved wife, E. Louise (Lou) Jackson, who passed away 32 years ago. Their long and joyful marriage was filled with laughter, travel, and shared passions that continued to shape Doug's life even after her passing.
In between time with the family, traveling and enjoying life, Doug worked at the City of Saskatoon Electrical Department for 35 years!
Doug is survived by his three daughters, Wendy Jackson, Sherri Jackson, and Lisa Monks, who will always remember their dad as kind, steady, and endlessly supportive. He was also a proud and loving grandfather to Madison Monks, Conor Monks, and Christine Gibson. Doug is survived by his brothers-in-law (AKA the crazy Uncles!), Gil (Linda) Garrett and Glen (Marilyn) Garrett, his brother-in-law Jack Magdalen, along with many friends who cherished his companionship over the years.
Doug's deep love for his family was evident in the countless summers spent camping and road-tripping across Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. Those adventures became treasured memories for his daughters and a reflection of Doug's desire to share the joy of the outdoors and quality time together.
He and Lou shared a love of travel, especially escaping to warmer places in the winter-with Mauii, Hawaii holding a special place in their hearts. Both avid badminton players, they were long-time members of the Saskatoon Badminton Club, spending many happy hours on the court together.
After Lou's passing, Doug continued to chase the sun, towing his fifth wheel trailer each winter to El Centro, California. There, he built a vibrant circle of friends, spent his days golfing, and enjoyed the freedom of the open road and snow-free living.
Doug lived in his own home until the age of 92, when he decided life had more to offer than mowing lawns and shoveling snow. His occasional forays to the Mall and Costco continued, however, as Dad's driver's license didn't expire until age 100!
Doug moved into Elim Lodge, where he enjoyed good food, fun times, and wonderful companionship. The family would like to thank the staff at Elim Lodge-especially Mary, Laura, Theresa and Morgan - for their care, kindness, and the community they provided.
We are also deeply grateful to MAID Saskatchewan for their compassionate and respectful support, allowing Dad to make his exit on his own terms, with dignity and peace.
Doug was a man of quiet strength, dry wit, and unwavering loyalty. He led by example, loved deeply, and left behind a family who will miss him immensely-and remember him always with a smile.
A private celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to raise a glass, take a trip, or play a game of badminton in Doug's honor. You might also consider donating to The Salvation Army - both Doug and his father were long-time contributors to this great organization.
