Edith 'Jean' Thompson

November 21, 1928 — January 18, 2026

Edith Jean Thompson of Saskatoon died at the age of 97. Born November 21, 1928 to Douglas and Violet Harvey, and loving partner of the late Charles Keith Thompson (deceased 1987), whom she married on December 27, 1954.

She is survived by their three children, Vivian (Godfrey) Forssman, Lizabeth (Rory) Campbell, and Chuck (Sheralee) Thompson, seven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren. She was predeceased by sister Beryl Smith, sister Vivian Patrick, and brothers-in-law Gerald Smith and Bill Patrick.

Jean was born in Eatonia, Saskatchewan and raised on a farm in the La Porte area. She received her elementary education in a rural school and after completing high school in Regina at St. Chad's, she pursued degrees at the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Manitoba, where she earned a Bachelor of Social Work. Jean's career, which spanned 25 years, included roles in Prince Albert, Swift Current, Regina, Brandon, and Saskatoon.

In Saskatoon, she was an active member of St. James/Emmanuel Anglican Church, Canadian Federation of University Women, and Amnesty International. She also enjoyed many years as a volunteer at Wanuskewin Heritage Park and was the recipient of a provincial award for her work there. Membership in local tennis clubs always provided opportunities to widen her circle of friends.

As with others of her generation who were tested by the Great Depression and tempered by World War II, Jean's resiliency and sometimes frugal ways were shaped by these events.

We will miss her love and steadfastness. She was our rock.

A Service of Remembrance will be held on Friday, February 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at Emmanuel Anglican Church, 609 Dufferin Avenue, Saskatoon.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306-244-5577.

In lieu of floral tributes, donations may be made to Wanuskewin Heritage Park or to a charity of choice.
