Edna Steckhan (nee Stuehler) was born on August 5, 1945 in Wolseley Saskatchewan and passed away on August 14, 2026 in Saskatoon. The youngest of six children, she attended a one room country school by horse, high school in town by school bus and earned her RN and BSN from the University of Saskatchewan in 1968. She moved to Fort William Ontario with the VON where she married Gerhard (Gerry) Steckhan in 1969 and then spent time in Montreal before moving back to Saskatoon where her sons Peter and Curt were born.
Edna enjoyed a remarkable career in health administration, helping shape provincial programs as a Home Care Manager in Foam Lake starting in 1980, Regional Consultant for Home Care in Yorkton in 1986, Provincial Consultant and Director of Personal Care Homes in Regina in 1988, and later leading quality improvement and care facilities in Indian Head, Broadview, and Moose Jaw before retiring in 2009.
Edna enjoyed travelling, including trips to Europe and the US to visit family and many road trips with her sisters in retirement, including a memorable cross-Canada trip to the Maritimes. She enjoyed knitting, painting, rug hooking and writing books on the stories of her family’s history.
Edna is lovingly remembered by her sons Peter (Dana) and Curt (Vince), stepchildren Mike (Joan) and Anne Marie (Dan), step-grandson Kelly (Jannah), sisters Ruth, Jean and Elsie as well as her extended family and friends.
A celebration of Edna’s life will take place on September 18 from 1pm to 3pm on the Prairie Lily.
