Elizabeth Jean "Liz" Chapman, age 71, passed away peacefully at home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, on May 1, 2026, at 5:40 PM, surrounded by love.
Liz will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Dean; her children, Amos (Mandy), Matthew, and Alyssa (Anthony, Ben, and Ben's mother Steph); her brothers, Hal (Ann) and Rich (Joyce); and many others whose lives were touched by her. She now joins her beloved son, Aaron, who predeceased her.
She was born on June 1, 1954, in Hempstead, New York. In 1995, she and her husband Dean moved their family from Long Island to the Chicago area before eventually settling in Saskatoon in 2003. Throughout her life, Liz was known for her warmth, humour, generosity, and deep love for people. To those who knew and loved her, she was far more than the roles she held; she was the glue of the family and someone who made people feel welcomed, seen, and cared for.
Children brought Liz immense joy. She adored doting on the children in her life and was especially proud to be Ben's grandma, affectionately referring to him as "the light of her life." While living in Illinois, Liz ran the before and after school program at Wood View Elementary, where she brought creativity, warmth, and excitement. She always had ideas for crafts, activities, and ways to make holidays feel magical and memorable.
Liz loved people and had a remarkable ability to connect with anyone she met. During her work as the Guest Services Coordinator at the Canadian Light Source guest residence, she welcomed visiting researchers from around the world with warmth and hospitality. She genuinely enjoyed hearing people's stories and learning about their lives and experiences.
A force to be reckoned with, Liz believed in honesty, sharing what you have with others, and extending kindness whenever possible. She followed politics closely and was passionate about advocating for the fair treatment of all.
There was always a dog to pet, treats to share, and quality time to be spent together. She will be remembered for the twinkle of mischief in her eye and her wicked sense of humour, which she carried right to the very end. She was so very loved, and she will be missed dearly.
The family will host a memorial gathering to celebrate Liz's life later this summer in Saskatoon. Afterward, her ashes will join her son Aaron's at a peaceful spot in the boreal forest.

Nothing Gold Can Stay - Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
