Eloise Johnson

January 16, 1950 — April 10, 2025

Eloise Johnson (née Nicholls) was born on January 16, 1950, in The Pas, Manitoba, to Armande and Leo Nicholls. She was the youngest of her siblings, with three half-sisters from her father's first marriage-Vada, Ethel, and Olive-and grew up alongside Peter, Louis, Eileen, Donnie, as well as Dennis and Doreen from her mother's second marriage.

Eloise's early years were marked by adventures across Western Canada. In the early 1950s, the family moved to British Columbia, living with Aunt Mary in Peachland and later settling on Mannering's farm in Winfield. It was in these formative years that Eloise met many lifelong friends, creating cherished memories of farm life, pets, and school days.

Following the passing of her father Leo in 1960, Eloise continued her education in Winfield and Saskatoon, graduating from Nutana Collegiate in 1968. It was during her university years that she met her beloved husband, Raymond Johnson, at a MUBS dance. Eloise earned her Bachelor of Arts & Science in 1971 and a Professional A Teaching Certificate in 1972.

Together, Eloise and Ray built a beautiful life filled with love, learning, and family. They welcomed their daughter Anita in 1971 and son Ryan in 1975. Throughout her years as an educator, Eloise touched the lives of countless students, teaching subjects ranging from English to Art, Typing, and more. Eloise earned the admiration and love of her students, who fondly referred to her as "Mrs. J".

Beyond her professional life, Eloise was a devoted mother, wife, friend, and community member. She served as a town councilor in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, and opened her heart and home to foster children, exchange students, and friends from all walks of life. Her passions included shopping adventures with dear friends, family road trips to British Columbia, and caring for her spirited Cocker Spaniel, Bandit.

Eloise and Ray cherished their retirement years in Elk Ridge Resort, Saskatchewan, surrounded by nature and family. Eloise was a passionate lifelong adventurer; visiting at least 30 different countries. Her generosity, warmth, and vibrant spirit left an indelible mark on everyone she met. Her brother Louis fondly remembers her boundless kindness and the adventures they shared in Saskatchewan.

Eloise's legacy lives on through her children, extended family, friends, and the many students she nurtured over the years. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her compassionate heart, dedication to education, and unwavering love for her family.

A celebration of Eloise's life will be held later this year. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Parkinson's or Cancer research, honoring her lifelong commitment to education and community.
