Elroy Wayne Glessing

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Elroy Wayne Glessing, of Handel, Saskatchewan, who passed away peacefully at his home in Saskatoon on August 8, 2026, at the age of 76.

Elroy was born on June 4, 1950, in Wilkie, Saskatchewan, to Ervin and Irene Glessing. He grew up on the family farm in Handel before leaving for Edmonton, Alberta, where he attended NAIT and earned his Journeyman Mechanic certification.

After completing his training, Elroy returned home to the farm, where he worked alongside his father. He also operated a garage, becoming the person neighbors and friends from near and far could count on whenever something needed fixing. There seemed to be very little Elroy couldn’t repair, and he never met a vehicle he couldn’t figure out.

Throughout his life, Elroy was known for his quiet and reserved nature, his strong work ethic, and his belief in doing the right thing. He was a man of few words, but his actions spoke for him. He had a deep love of animals and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time outdoors.

Above all, Elroy will be remembered for his quiet kindness, his willingness to help others, his incredible mechanical ability, and the many ways he cared for the people and animals around him.

Family was at the heart of Elroy’s life. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Yvonne; his son Lyle (Heather); daughter Lisa (Ken); and son Corey.

He will be dearly missed by his granddaughters, Isabella and Victoria, Lisa’s daughters, as well as her step kids Brooklyn, Bradley, Emily, and Kay-Lynne.

He will also be missed by many extended family members, friends, neighbors, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Elroy was predeceased by his parents, Ervin and Irene Glessing, and his sister, Debbie.

Those who knew Elroy will remember him for his quiet strength, his dependability, his love of fixing things, and his willingness to lend a hand whenever it was needed. He may not have always said much, but those close to him knew they could count on him.

His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. A Celebration of Life will be held on August 14, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Edwards Family Centre. Courtesy parking at Saskatoon Funeral Home.
