It is with sadness the family of Elwyn Morgan announces his passing June 12, 2025, at Preston Special Care Home, with family by his side.
Born in 1926, Dad had a very long and a very active life. Besides his work of farming for over 50 years southeast of Dundurn on the farm his parents, John Andrew and Kathleen Emily, had started in the early 1920's, he had other interests during different decades. Among them at different times of life were meeting and marrying a beautiful partner in Vancouver, Nan Rutherford; raising a family of five children; Scoutmaster in Dundurn; building a lakefront cabin at Loon Lake--his and Mum's happy place; some travelling, including a couple of extended trips to Hawaii; an active interest in vintage farm tractors and equipment; automotive mechanics in his workshop in the backyard of their home in Saskatoon; and, throughout retirement years, lunch with Mum and coffee row with both new and old friends. He and Mum also had longtime friendships spanning 50 or even 70 years.
"Sweet are the uses of adversity", perhaps explains Dad's resilience. He faced many challenges as a youth growing up and as a father in family life as well as in the occupational difficulties of farming. He liked to laugh and had a developed sense of humour that never left him and was often surprising.
Dad is predeceased by his wife Nan, their son Pat, granddaughter Asha Ann, his beloved brother Dennis (and Sarah) and almost all his and Mum's friends including family friend Tom (and Kris) Goff. He appreciated Nature, the complexity of the natural world, and its power. We miss him dearly. Left to mourn him are children Jack (Deb), Betty, Peggy Cool, Kathleen (John Beckett); grandchildren Jackie, Tanya (Kelly), Stephanie (Chris), Jesse, Alieka, and Mitch (Laura); and six great-grandchildren in two provinces, as well a niece, nephews, and cousin.
The family would like to thank all the staff at Preston Special Care Home for the training, skill, and dedication they bring to their work. Also, we would like to acknowledge and thank the women at LutherCare Home Help who enabled Dad to continue living at home for as long as he did prior to his two and a half years at Preston Special Care Home. A family memorial is to be held later. Arrangements in care of Saskatoon Funeral Home.
