It is with sadness the family of Ernest Luchsinger announces his passing on Thursday Aug 21, 2025 at Sunnyside Care Home, at Saskatoon 82 years of age.
Ernie is survived by his sister Betty Peters and brother in law Harry Peters (Saskatoon), nephew Landon Peters (Saskatoon/ Yellowknife), niece Raelyn Morton and her husband Mark Morton (Calgary), niece Laryssa Peters (Saskatoon), nephew Travis Peters (Saskatoon), niece Cheri and her husband Kim Griffiths (Qu'Appelle, Sk), nephew Shayne Luchsinger and his wife Cynthia Luchsinger (Lacombe, Alberta), and nephew David Luchsinger and his wife Marcella Luchsinger (Calgary).
Ernie was born May 31, 1943 and raised on farm near Leroy, Saskatchewan. He attended Sjolie farm school near Leroy, Saskatchewan, and later took an electrician's apprenticeship course in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
At the age of 18 Ernie began long haul trucking until he met Raymonde Perrin and they married shortly after. At that time, he began grain and cattle farming with his father-in-law Paul Perrin.
Always taking initiative and being resourceful, Ernie was involved in a number of different business ventures which were extensions of the farm. He marketed grasshopper bait for Peacock Industries, raised and harvested emus, built a fertilizer and crop testing plant a few miles from the farm, raised leaf cutter bees for alfalfa pollination, and was involved in the production of mobile bee huts.
In the winter months Ernie and Raymonde would travel down to Arizona to visit Dick Smith. After Ramonde passed in 2011 from cancer, Ernie continued on the farm with leaf cutter bees and rented out much of his land. The business of farming was his social life and he engaged with many of his friends and acquaintances around that. He was particularly close to Christine Peteetuce who helped with the daily farm duties and Frances Wagner, Vern Hendersen, and his brother in law, Harry Peters.
Ernie made a commitment to serving God before Raymonde's passing in 2011. They will be buried together in the Old Hague Cemetery just outside of town.
A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday August 28, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at Saskatoon Funeral Home followed by a reception at the Edwards Family Centre.
