It is with deep love and profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fern Muriel Adair on Friday, November 14, 2025.
Born on May 15, 1925, in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Fern was a woman of remarkable intelligence, vibrant spirit, and boundless affection who touched the lives of everyone she met.
A Life of Learning, Service, and Love
Fern grew up in Halbrite, Saskatchewan as part of a large and loving family. She was raised alongside her five brothers, Lawrence, Fred, Emery, Walter, and Marvin, and her four sisters, Mamie, Olive, Margaret,Ruth and Pat. From a young age, her bright and scholarly nature was evident, paired with a beautiful musical talent and a loving disposition.
Her keen interest in education led her to become a dedicated teacher for many years, sharing her love of learning with countless students.
Fern’s life took an adventurous turn during World War Two. she traveled to Toronto, initially intending to pursue a career in Nursing. Instead, she became a vital part of the war effort as “Fern the fitter,” working diligently on the production of Lancaster bombers for Canada.
After the war, Fern returned to the prairies and met the love of her life, Bill Adair. Together, they embarked on a life that took them across the Saskatchewan prairie, settling in several communities including Osage,Maxstone, Viceroy, Holdfast, and Readlyn. They eventually made their home in Assiniboia, where they raised their four cherished children: Don, Doug, Robin, and Susan.
Legacy and Later Years
In 1972, Fern and Bill moved to Saskatoon. Yet, for a woman like Fern, learning never stopped. She passionately pursued new interests, including art, writing, toastmasters and world travel, always seeking new knowledge and experiences.
Fern's legacy of love and curiosity lives on through her family. She is survived by her four children, her beloved grandchildren, and many precious great-grandchildren.
Fern Adair will be remembered as a kind and loving matriarch, a dedicated teacher, and a woman whose intellect and warmth shone brightly throughout her extraordinary 100 years. She was truly loved by everyone she encountered.
