Francis Charles "Frank" GARRITTY

Nov. 21, 1945 - Dec. 21, 2024

Francis "Frank" Charles

Nov. 21, 1945 to Dec. 21, 2024.

Frank died Saturday, December 21, 2024 Saskatoon at the age of 79.

Frank was predeceased by his parents, Bernward and Irene Garritty (née Fodey), survived by his wife of 57 years Bernadette Garritty (née Palmer), his daughters Chantelle (Vlad Semiga, Ben and Sydney), Kimberly, Shane (Amber Learned, Finnian, Eamon and Beckett) and Brendan (Amy Janzen, Sloane); his sisters Sr. Geraldine (Gerry) Garritty and Kathy Garritty, along with many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Born and raised in Regina, Frank attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Campion College and the University of Saskatchewan to study education.

In 1963, he met the love of his life, Bernadette, who shared his passion for education. They married in 1967 and began their teaching careers together, forming lifelong friendships along the way and building a life rooted in mutual respect, community engagement, and meaningful connections. Frank was a strong advocate for teacher welfare and eventually served as president of both the Saskatchewan (1983-85) and Canadian Teachers Federations (1985-87) and was an Executive Assistant for the STF until his retirement.

Immensely proud of his professional accomplishments, his work and interest in other teacher and education organizations took him to many countries around the world, including South Africa, Togo, and Ghana, which were dear to his heart. His love of travel also led him to explore other places later in life, including trips to Phoenix, Holland, France, and Spain.

Frank was passionate about politics and history. He tended to his love of history by exploring his family genealogy, and getting involved with the Saskatchewan History and Folklore Society, serving as president for several years. He was a board member of the Companions of Good Cheer, and past member of the Saskatoon Rotary Club.

For those that knew Frank, he was an amazing host. He and Bernadette's dining room was frequently full of guests where he loved to tell stories and keep his guests' glasses full.

Frank loved curling as a player, organizer of two world championships, and a fan. As a proverbial optimist, he was also a lifelong, diehard fan of both the Toronto Maple Leafs and a season ticket holder of the Riders for more than 50 years.

Frank had a huge heart, loved deeply and has left a legacy of honesty, kindness and generosity. His first priority was always Bernadette and his children, and then eventually his grandchildren who became the center of his universe. He delighted in the accomplishments of his children, grandchildren and extended family.
