Frank Scherr

May 25, 1940 — February 5, 2025

It is with profound sadness that Frank's family announces his passing on Wednesday, February 5, 2025.

Frank is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Mavis; two sons, Kelly (Maggie) and their children Devon, Lindsay (Heitor), and Aaron (Tony) and son, Damian; Darryl (Kim) and their children Madison (Andy) and Parker; and one daughter Carla, her son Jessie and his father, Clayton.

Frank is also survived by two sisters, Margaret and Shirley; sisters in law, Rose and Mary Ann; brothers in law, Ray and Dennis (Leona) and many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Val and Elizabeth; brothers Daniel, Arthur and Charles, sister, Monica; brothers in law, Randy and Joe; mother and father in law, Ivar and Hazel; and sisters in law, Helen and Vickie.

Frank was born in Allan, SK. He grew up and attended school in Delisle. He moved to Saskatoon at the age of 17 years and worked in construction. He attended SIAST and became a journeyman in carpentry. In 1963 he started working at Co-op Dairy (Saputo) and retired 43 years later.

Frank was an avid sports fan for his entire life. He played football for the Saskatoon Hilltops in 1959-1961 where he was on the Canadian championship team. His love continued for football until his later years and he continued to enjoy many Husky and Hilltop games. When he had children, he volunteered as his son's hockey team manager and spent countless hours taking his daughter to figure skating and watching her events. When Frank had grandchildren, he enjoyed watching their school sports, dance recitals, and hockey games culminating in his final major event which was the Centennial Cup in 2023 in Portage, MB.

Frank enjoyed many summers at their family cabin on Sunset Bay, Emma Lake and maintained many close friendships with his lake friends and neighbors. He spent many hours soaking up the sun. He also enjoyed to travel and went to Hawaii, Disneyland, Disneyworld and Las Vegas with his friends and family.

All who knew Frank knew that he loved to chat and tell stories, many of them not entirely true! He also had a love of reading, particularly sports and history books and would share his learnings with all who would listen. He loved to play cards, particularly crib and took pride in teaching all of his grandchildren how to play.

Unfortunately Frank was stricken with cancer five years before his death. He endured several procedures including surgery and chemotherapy and fought a brave and valiant battle until the time of his death. He passed away peacefully at St. Paul's Hospital Palliative Care Unit with Mavis by his side.

Frank's family would like to thank the palliative home care program; Dr. Roelens who was his family doctor for many years, the staff in the palliative care unit at St. Paul's Hospital, and the many doctors and staff that he encountered during his cancer journey. We would also like to thank our many friends and family members who supported us through this difficult time.

There will be a Celebration of Life honouring Frank on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm at the Edwards Centre on 4th Avenue across from Saskatoon Funeral Home with parking provided in the Saskatoon Funeral Home parking lot. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Frank's honour to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
