Frederick Carl Matheson

1932 — 2024

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Frederick Carl Matheson on August 9, 2024, at the age of 92. Fred was born in Prince Albert in 1932 to Ruth and Ted Matheson. Fred spent most of his life in Prince Albert, a city he loved dearly. Fred had a good group of friends growing up that he was close to up until his passing. During high school he followed his dad, Ted, into the men's wear business and with his younger brother Jack they continued to run a very successful men's wear business -Ted Matheson Men's Wear Ltd.

He had a lifelong passion for flowers, creating beautiful gardens, growing geraniums from seed every spring. In 1988, Fred decided to venture off in another direction and followed his sons to the insurance business. In retirement, he and Doreen spent many winter months in Parksville BC and enjoyed many skiing trips over the years. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club, Curling Club and the golf clubs of Prince Albert and Waskesiu. They loved Prince Albert National Park and bought a cabin in 1970. It was a lively gathering place for family and friends.

The most important part of Fred's life was when he met Doreen, and they were married in 1959. Soon after their children were born, they had a great long life with family being most important. His family meant the world to him, and this was evident all through his life.

Fred is survived by his wife Doreen, his children Susan (the late Glenn), Janice (Todd), John (Maureen), Bob (Robbin); grandchildren Kyle (Stephanie), April (Jeremy), Ashley (Joel), Eric, Hilary (Ross), Morgan (Jesse), Elliott (Codie), Christine (Patrick); great grandchildren Andrew, Davis, Beckett, Emmett, Caden.

Fred was a classy businessperson, community leader, active in his church - his legacy will live on through his precious family and friends and all the lives he touched.

Funeral service will be on Monday August 19, 2024 2:00 pm, at Grace Westminster United Church (505-10th St East Saskatoon SK).

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Salvation Army.
