In Loving Memory of Gary Shynkaruk
September 24, 1951 - October 5, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Shynkaruk, born on September 24, 1951, to Ann (Yanchowski) and John Shynkaruk.
Gary grew up in Saskatoon and attended John Lake School and later Aden Bowman Collegiate. From an early age, he had an adventurous spirit and a love for the outdoors that led him to become a passionate skier. Gary's talent took him to incredible heights - he proudly represented Canada on the National Ski Jumping Team. He also worked as Ski Patrol at Blackstrap Mountain and was part of the crew who helped build the original Saskatoon ski jump, a project he always remembered fondly.
A man of exceptional craftsmanship, Gary was a talented cabinet maker who built a career around his love of working with his hands. He owned and operated Custom Furniture Ltd. for 20 years, creating beautiful, one-of-a-kind pieces. Later, he worked as a production manager at Hygrade Millwork, where his attention to detail and creativity were highly valued until his retirement.
Gary's interests extended far beyond his trade. He was a true car enthusiast, owning many vehicles over the years and spending countless hours in his garage restoring, tinkering, and perfecting his projects. One of his proudest accomplishments was designing and building his own jet boat, which his family enjoyed for many years. He loved the open road, taking adventurous road trips that carried him across North America and as far south as Belize, Honduras, and Puerto Penasco.
Gary will be lovingly remembered by his children David and Lori Ann, and his cherished grandchildren Ashton, Lakeesha, and Maddison. He also leaves behind his sisters Sandi and Judy, as well as many extended family members and friends. He was predeceased by his mother and father.
Gary's life was defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and courage. Whether building furniture, fine-tuning an engine, or carving his path down a ski hill, he poured his heart into everything he did. His adventurous spirit will live on in those who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Gary's life and informal gathering will be held Thursday October 16,2025, 2:00 pm at The Edwards Family Center, 333 4th avenue north, saskatoon.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages you to take a drive down an open road, just as Gary would have wanted. To share memories and condolences, please visit www.saskatoonfuneralhome.com. Arrangements entrusted to Saskatoon Funeral Home, 306-244-5577.
