George John Ferguson

1949 — January 12, 2018

George Ferguson With broken hearts we announce the passing of George John Ferguson on Friday, January 12, 2018 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. His passing leaves an unbearable grief that can only be lessened with the strength of family and friends. George was born on January 6, 1949, the only son of Jim and Irean (Hollet). He attended Mayfair and Caswell elementary and Bedford Road Collegiate. Following graduation he enrolled in the College of Engineering at the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with his degree in Civil Engineering in 1972. He immediately began his career with Pounder Emulsions working his way up to General Manager of the company. George was highly regarded in Western Canada’s road building and maintenance industry for his professionalism, technical knowledge and honesty. He was well-liked and highly respected. In 1975, while working on a project near Yorkton, he met Charlene Bilokreli. In 1976 they married and made their home in Saskatoon. Their family of four children began in 1978 with the birth of their first son, Braden, followed by Erin, Jennifer and Brett. When his work took him to job sites in Western Canada his family would pack up and join him. George and Charlene were active in the school and extra curricular activities of their children. George encouraged and guided their individual post-secondary and career ambitions and personal adventures. When grandchildren began to arrive, Charlene and George were at their finest. They always looked forward to visits from their grandchildren and regularly attended their activities. Their home became a hub for family gatherings that filled their house with love and laughter. George enjoyed sports from an early age playing hockey, ball and football, passing on his love for golf and hockey to his sons. He was an avid and passionate Toronto Maple Leafs Fan in spite of their dismal performance for decades. In 2010 George was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma and underwent a stem cell transplant in 2011. After transplant George continued to play golf and spend time with his family going on two trips to Disney World, a trip to Arizona with Charlene and annual family trips to Waskesiu and Edmonton. George was predeceased by his father Jim, mother Irean, sister Jeanine Hendricks, brother-in-law Russ Leard, father and mother in law Murray and Nellie Bilokreli. George is survived by his loving wife Charlene, son Braden, daughter Erin, daughter Jennifer (Jagdeep) Dhanjal and son Brett (Jennifer). Grandchildren Rushton, Kyan, Teeg, Elodie and Lilah. He is also survived by sister Rosemary Leard, brother-in-law Dale Hendricks, sister Gloria (Phil) Wisminity. Those wishing to make a donation in Georges’ memory may do so to the Bone Marrow Transplant program at the Saskatoon Cancer Centre or Myeloma Canada.
