Obituary of George Douglas (Dale) Milne June 29, 1941 - January 24, 2026 The family of George Douglas (Dale) Milne is deeply saddened to announce that Dale passed away on January 24, 2026 at St. Paul's Hospital in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - the same hospital his life had begun on June 29, 1941. Dale is deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family and many friends. He is survived by his daughter Vanna (David) Nigh, son David (Elaine Byrtus), six grandchildren and their spouses, Dallas (Lerissa) Nigh, Josh (Kelaine Brand) Nigh, Curtis (Cassidy) Nigh, Dayne (Lauren Lindstrand) Nigh, Brynn (Myles Dekker) Nigh, Georgia Milne, and four great grand-children, Isabella & Mila Nigh, Collyns & Cohen Nigh. Dale also leaves behind his three sisters and brother in law, Elsie Jean Dyck, Donna Sweet, and Marion (Walter) Goos and many nieces and nephews and their families. He is also survived by Charlotte's family, sisters-in-law, Betty (Hal) Macon, Marion (Larry Ahenakew) and Linda (Keith) Goulet, Charlotte's children Ricki Jean Popadynec, Blake (Melanie) Stephens and Joni (Mel) Menz and Charlottes grandchildren, Rachel Ann, Jackson and Matthew. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Charlotte, parents Willard and Zelma Milne, brothers-in-law Cornel Dyck, Derrick Sweet and previous brother in law Charlie Fox. Dale grew up on the family farm in the Woodlawn District near Delisle, Saskatchewan where his father, Willard, farmed and mother, Zelma, was a school teacher. Their home was just down the road from where Willard's brother and family also farmed and the two families were very close. There are many stories about the adventures these eight cousins shared together growing up. As a young man out of highschool, Dale worked on a farm, drove a fuel truck and then worked in a bank. It was at this time that he met Lynda Rusk. Dale and Lynda were married in Saskatoon on May 9, 1964 and shortly thereafter moved to Humboldt, SK where Dale had taken a job with British American Oil. This is where their two children were born - Vanna in 1967 and David in 1968. In 1970, they transferred to Assiniboia, SK and then on to Camrose, Alberta in 1972 where they resided until after both kids had graduated from high school. Dale remained employed with the same company which had evolved over the years from British American Oil, to Gulf Canada and eventually became Petro Canada. In each community that Dale and Lynda lived, they formed many friendships and belonged to different service clubs such as Kinsmen/Kinettes and Lion/Lioness groups. They took many family vacations together to places like Disneyland and Hawaii, enjoyed their weekends camping and boating and visiting family and friends. In 1987, Dale and Lynda moved to Edmonton to be closer to Dale's office and enjoy their empty nest years in the city. This was not to be the final move though as Dale and Lynda's marriage ended in 1996 and Dale returned to his roots in Saskatchewan. Dale resided in Biggar and then Battleford before meeting a wonderful lady, Charlotte Stephens. They were married in May of 2007 and a new chapter of life and love began. Dale and Charlotte moved up to Napatak and enjoyed a very full and happy life in their cabin by the lake. They both loved the beauty of nature and the simple things in life and lived each day side by side. Many weekends were spent camping and visiting with family and friends. They enjoyed vacations throughout the United States and travelled to both Canadian coasts. Sadly, Charlotte lost a courageous battle with ovarian cancer in March of 2019 and Dale was once again on his own. By then, they had moved to Delisle, SK to be closer to Charlotte's treatments and that is where Dale stayed until August, 2021 when he was involved in a serious car accident that forced a move into long term care in Saskatoon. With this came a time of adjustment, but after some months, Dale came to accept his new living situation. His outlook became more positive and he made the most of his circumstances. Although he could no longer use his legs to walk, Dale's mind, quick wit and personable attitude was intact and he soon became a favourite around the care home. He loved to visit and meet new people, often finding things in common or a common thread somewhere along someone's past. Many of the staff became like family and he had a true sense of community there. He thrived in his surroundings with the aid of a power wheel chair and his willing taxi driver, Wayne, who became a close friend. He could often be found out for breakfast at the Robin's Nest in Vanscoy, the Mel Rose Bakery outside of Delisle or his favourite place to eat, Filosophi Wise Cusine in Saskatoon where he always ate like and was treated like a king. Dale had really begun to enjoy life again and while he had accepted his limitations, he didn't let them slow him down. He and Wayne took several trips to North Battleford and Jackfish Lake to participate in family gatherings and just last August, made a one day round trip to Camrose and back so he could enjoy a backyard visit and bbq with his whole family - kids, grandkids and spouses, and three granddaughters. A wonderful afternoon and special memories for a lifetime. Although Dale still had plans and more journeys in mind, his body had had enough and he sadly slipped away from us. He is grieved and missed by so many and his impact and attitude towards life his final four years in the care home will have a lasting and profound effect on all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Delisle Town Hall in Delisle, SK on Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 2:00 pm. All are invited to remember Dale as we share our memories in words and photos.
