We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our beloved brother, husband, father, grandfather, Gerald Yausie, just shy of his 71st birthday, after courageously living with cancer for three years. Gerald passed peacefully at St. Paul's hospital, in the arms of his wife and children. Gerald leaves a void in our lives that words can scarcely touch, for he was the steady centre of our world. He grew up on the family farm, and attended school in Zelma and Colonsay. Devoting his life to farming with his dad and later his wife, Gerald was first and foremost, a farmer. He held a deep connection with the land and loved his cows. He was a pillar of the community, spending over 20 years serving on schoolboard, and 12 as the reeve of the RM of Colonsay. Gerald was an avid sports fan - Blue Jays, Oilers, the Roughriders and curling. He loved to read, go for drives in the country and tinker in the shop. He will be remembered as a good neighbor, and friend, always ready for a visit. Most of all, Gerald was a family man and valued time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren.
Gerald is predeceased by his parents, Wes and Emma; brother, Scott; father and mother-in-law, Buck and Violet Nolan; sister-in-law, Joan, and brother-in-law, Rick. He is tenderly remembered by his wife and soulmate, Ruth, of 41 years; their children and grandchildren, Brad (Marie), Kodan, Kaylyn, Carter, Jayla, Sutten; Amber (Kevin) Thompson, Olivia, Mercer, Claire; Lynn (Jamie) Campbell, Lucas, Jacob, Henry; Carmen (Kyle) MacDonald; Siblings, Cameron (Rose) and Sandra (Jim); Sister-in-law, Gail; Sisters-in-law, Gwen (Larry) Marsh, Joanne (Brent) Lafleur; brother-in-law, Greg (Florence) Nolan; along with many special aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who played a role in Gerald's exceptional medical care over the last three years, with special attention to the compassionate staff at the St. Paul's palliative care unit.
