Gilmour August Gerster

December 3, 1928 — January 17, 2026

With sadness but happiness for a life well lived, we announce the passing of Gilmour Gerster, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather who died peacefully with family by his side on January 17, 2026.

Gilmour was born in North Battleford on December 3, 1928. He enjoyed most of his life on the family farm in Borden. Gilmour was dedicated, proud, hardworking, and considered himself a farmer to the very core of his soul.

Gilmour is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen (nee Possberg), daughters Christine (Ken) Meier and Yvonne (Derek) Hachkewich, grandchildren Thomas, Mitchell (Rhiannon), Haylee, Cole and great-granddaughter Arwyn. He is predeceased by his parents, August and Pansy (Caplette), son Murray, and sisters Mona, Jeanette and Joyce.

Gilmour married Helen Possberg from burr, SK in 1960 and had 3 children; Christine, Murray and Yvonne. He enjoyed farming crops, raising livestock and gardening. He had a true love of farming, fishing, camping, visiting family and friends, but was always most happy at his farm which he loved and was very proud of.

He was an avid learner and enjoyed reading the Star Phoenix, Western Producer, encyclopedias and books. He enjoyed staying up to date with current events by listening to educational shows. People were truly impressed by his knowledge and retention of events.

Gilmour attended church regularly or watched daily Mass. He was a quiet leader who rarely raised his voice. He volunteered regularly in the Borden community, helped other farmers and shared his produce.

Gilmour was a kind, resilient, remarkable man. He was a truly devoted husband to his wife showing her love, kindness, and respect. He will be missed and remembered by all that knew and loved him.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Ann’s Nursing Home in Saskatoon, a place where people are truly treated with compassion, respect, and are cared for. At Dad’s request a private family funeral will be held.
