Grace Winifred Hyde

1928 — February 17, 2020

Grace Hyde (Bowen)
1928-2020

Grace Winifred Hyde passed away on Monday February 17, 2020 at Oliver Lodge in Saskatoon.  She is survived by her children Joan, Carol (Hap), John (Grace), Jim, 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and her sisters Irene, Edith and Lynne.  She was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Jack, in 2019, her daughter Eveline in 1974, and her sister Jose in 2005.

Grace Bowen was born on August 27, 1928 at Glenside, SK.  She moved to Saskatoon in 1947 where she met Jack Hyde.  They fell in love and were married on October 15, 1948.  They soon started a family, having 5 children, and later taking in 15 foster children.  In 1954 Grace and Jack built a home, in Montgomery Place, where they lived for 60 years.

Grace volunteered for many organizations: she was a founding member of the Trinity United Church in Montgomery, she was involved with Girl Guides, and a board member at the Frank Eliason Center and Oliver Lodge, two retirement care homes in Saskatoon.  Grace and Jack were also longtime political supporters, helping with Premier Romanow’s campaigns.

Grace’s home was always open, for family and friends alike.  She loved to take care of people – she would sew the hole in your clothing, or crochet a blanket for you.  Grace had an endless supply of activities and crafts to work on with her children and grandchildren.  Her love of bird watching, gardening and flowers were activities that she loved to share with those around her – her children and grandchildren remember afternoons spent searching for 4 leaf clovers.  She was always baking; making sure the freezer was full to give a treat to anyone who stopped by.

Grace will be dearly missed.
