The family of Grant Robertson sadly announces that he passed away Wednesday, November 19th at the age of seventy-five. Grant was born September 8, 1950 in Radville, Saskatchewan. As a young man, he attended school in Radville, worked in his father's car dealership and played as many sports as were available to him at the time. Once he had graduated high school, he chose to continue his education at the University of Saskatchewan and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
Grant's entire adult work experience was devoted to the home building industry. His career began as Controller for Cairns Homes in Saskatoon. That was followed by his move into operations in the position of Saskatoon Housing Manager and later as Vice President of Carma Developments. It was during those years that Grant became involved with a working group assembled with the intent of establishing The New Home Warranty Program of Saskatchewan. An initiative that has been an integral part of protecting new home buyers when purchasing a home from a registered builder. Through the 1980's, Grant gave his time and energy to the work of the Saskatoon Home Builders Association, starting as a board member, becoming president of the local association and eventually Chair of the Saskatchewan Home Builders Association. His good judgement and principled code of ethics made him a valued member of the Canadian Home Builders Association, supporting builders, suppliers, trades and more in the pursuit of excellence to the benefit of Canadians everywhere.
In 1991 Grant took the plunge and formed his own home building company, Legacy Homes. Not long afterwards he was joined by his friend and colleague Robert (Bob) Brown. Together they built what has become one of Saskatoon's most respected home builders, with a reputation for design excellence, top quality workmanship and outstanding customer service. Grant's greatest joy was having his three children, Clark, Ford, and Lee join him in the business, allowing him the luxury of the occasional day off while watching them bring their own skills and goals to fruition.
Leisure time was spent with friends, curling at Nutana, and a long standing member of the Saskatoon Golf and Country Club. Once again, when asked to serve on the board, he did so without hesitation. Grant was a key player in negotiating an agreement with the City of Saskatoon, which allowed the club to swap adjacent properties. Whereby the SGCC gave up property north of the CNR mainline for city land south of the tracks. This allowed the Club to relocate its entire operation to its present location, ensuring its future for generations to come.
Grant leaves to mourn his wife of forty-eight years, Joanne (née Friel), his parents Bill and Willna Robertson of Radville, Sk, sons Clark (Brandi), Ford (Melissa), daughter Lee (Jerod) and the lights of his life, grandchildren Bennett, Maisie, Robert and Isabelle. He was predeceased by his daughter Sara and his brother Rob.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Hader and everyone at the Saskatoon Cancer Clinic for their care and support.
There will be a private family interment.
A Come and Go Memorial Reception for Grant will be held on Tuesday, December 16th from 2:00pm - 5:00pm at The Saskatoon Golf and Country Club (865 Cartwright Street, Furdale, SK)
