Harold Milton Haaland, aged 96, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2026, at Preston Special Care Home in Saskatoon, SK. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin and friend, Harold's kindness and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Harold was born in Hawarden, SK, on June 15, 1930. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Minnie Haaland, his wife Doreen (Westbrook) and by his siblings Les (Gwen) Haaland, Aileen (Neil) Matthie, Eunice (Bob) McLaren, and Grace (Jim) Waldner. Harold attended school in Hanley, SK, and later took over the family farm, where he spent most of his life farming grain and raising livestock. Farming was always in his blood, and he carried on the work of his parents with dedication and pride.
Curling was one of Harold's lifelong passions, and he proudly competed in many bonspiels over the years. As time went on, he embraced golf with equal enthusiasm, spending countless enjoyable days at the Wildwood and Hanley Golf Courses with friends. Harold and his wife, Doreen, shared a love of bridge and were devoted members of the St. James Anglican Church bridge club. Some of Harold's happiest memories came from camping trips with his family, including visits to Expo '86, Disneyland, and the unforgettable drive into Yellowstone National Park, navigating switchbacks and hairpin turns with their fifth‑wheel trailer. Harold is lovingly remembered by his children, Judy (Rob) Barkman and Eric (Daylin) Haaland; his grandchildren Noah, Thomas, Eva, Georgia, and Liam; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
We extend our sincere thanks to the staff and management at Preston Special Care Home for the exceptional care they provided. Knowing he was cared for with such compassion brought us great comfort. Your kindness means so much to us.
