With great sorrow, we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of Hazel Helen Fowler, on Feb. 15, 2023 at RUH, surrounded by her family. Hazel was the oldest of three children to the late Ernest and Florence Hobbs. Predeceased by her husband, Arthur, and infant son, Scott. She leaves behind her children, Susan (Joel Kerry) and David (Debbie Haryett); grandchildren, Jillian Kerry (Jarrett & Kade Walter, great-grandson), Chelsey Kerry, Christian Fowler (Nora Lobb) and Corynn Fowler (Bernard Von Bieberstein); her sister, Jean Gillespie; and countless friends and colleagues.
Mom was going to be 97 years young on April 13 th . Born and raised in North Battleford, she enrolled in the Psychiatric nursing program in Saskatchewan’s first mental hospital in North Battleford. Shortly after graduation she met the love of her life, Art, at Waskesui in 1949 and married on July 19 th , 1952. Dad passed four months shy of their 70 th wedding anniversary.
In 1968 she had an opportunity to join the Saskatchewan Alcohol Commission. She accomplished a lot while at the Commission. Notably she partnered with Lynn Tait to develop programming for nursing students across the province.
Mom and Dad retired in 1984 and spent many happy years at Waskesiu, travelling to Hawaii, Europe and partook in many cruises.
Mom was a great cheerleader for her children and grandchildren, attending marble tournaments, softball, football, hockey, and basketball games; track meets, school plays and dance competitions.
Following Dad’s passing, she moved to Preston Park where she met many new friends and became active playing the drums, modelling in a fashion show and participating in many outings. A special thank you to the staff at Preston Park who supported her independence.
We will never forget her determination and tenacity and love of family. A celebration of her life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, May 15, 2023, at the W.A. Edwards Family Centre, 333- 4 th Ave North (courtesy parking at Saskatoon Funeral Home). In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations to be made to a charity of your choice in Hazel’s name.
