Ingrid Gisela Hoehn

Ingrid Hoehn (née Gehrhardt) was born in Leipzig, Germany, in 1931. She was separated from her mother during World War II when Jewish descent forced her mother into hiding. She was evacuated from wartime Leipzig and spent some of her early years on a farm with relatives. As a teenager, she made the difficult decision to join her father, stepmother and family by escaping over the border from occupied East Germany to the West. Ingrid had an early interest in clothing design and undertook a two-year sewing apprenticeship. She then pivoted to teacher's college where she met Erwin Hoehn, the love of her life. She loved teaching young students in the early grades in Germany. Ingrid and Erwin married in 1959 and moved to Canada in 1967 with their two children. In Canada, she completed a Master's degree in Education, specializing in adult education. After a spell as a substitute teacher, she began a successful career as a real estate agent.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her activities in the community included a long association with Trinity Lutheran Church and the University's Faculty Wives Club. She loved outdoor activities with Erwin, including hiking, skiing, windsurfing, canoeing, and just hanging out at the cottage with family and friends. Ingrid and Erwin together enjoyed travelling, dancing, camping, and entertaining friends. This always involved copious amounts of cake and whipped cream.

Ingrid died peacefully at Stensrud Lodge on October 29th surrounded by her family. She is survived by her two children (and their spouses), Felix (Carol) and Katja (Larry); her grandchildren Jessica (Ross), Eric (Sarah), Adrienne (Ricardo), and Stefan. She was thrilled to be the great-grandmother of Riley and Wesley, and of the two more great-grandchildren expected soon.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the caring staff at Trinity Manor and Stensrud Lodge, doctors Reem Abdul Hadi and Mark Boechler, Pastor Mark Hedlin, and to Muriel Nuesch for the devoted care and friendship Muriel provided Ingrid during the last years of her life.

A memorial service will occur in the spring or summer of 2027. Donations in Ingrid's memory can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan or a charity of your choice.
