It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, Daniel Iroba Okonta. At 37 years old, Daniel left us all too soon on June 8, 2023.
He was born on 9 February 1986 in Benin City, Nigeria to James Okonta and Cecilia Obika. He attended Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering in 2010. After graduation, Daniel developed a fascination with heavy-duty equipment and that fascination drove the rest of his career path. He began working as an engineering intern, and quickly became a maintenance engineer and finally, a heavy equipment technician. In 2014, he married his wife Kemi, and they have been blessed with three sons. In 2018, he moved with his wife and children to Saskatoon, Canada, where he surrounded himself with a strong community of friends that enriched his life.
Daniel was a kind-hearted man who always put others first. His friends and family were his world, and he cherished every moment spent with them. He was always there to lend a helpful hand and a listening ear to those in need. He went out of his way to make sure the people around him were happy. He had a contagious laughter and an infectious smile that always lit up the room. His hobbies included swimming, tennis and he was learning to golf at the time of his passing.
He loved his children and enjoyed watching them grow, learn, and loved to share his interests with them. As a husband, he was a dependable partner and a trustworthy confidant. He wanted the best for his family and showed it in both words and action.
Although he is no longer with us, he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will never be forgotten. He will be deeply missed by his father (James), his wife (Kemi), his sons (Nathan, Noah and Neil), his siblings (Faith and Desmond), numerous extended family members, and cherished friends. The memories he has left us will live on.
