James Melvin Engel

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of James Melvin (Jim) Engel at a young age of 66. He left us on Tuesday, August 4, 2026 @ 4:10 p.m. He went peacefully after suffering from the cruel effects of Pancreatic Cancer @ RUH Hospital in Saskatoon.

Jim was pre-deceased by his Dad (Elmer Engel), his Mom (Helen Mary (Murphy) Engel and his Sister Wendy Engel. 

Jim is survived by his best friend and wife of 41 years, Trudy Engel, his loving and beautiful children Kirsten (Mike) Thompson and Bryn Engel. He will be missed dearly by his two grandchildren Charlie James Thompson and Emerson Helen May Thompson. These two angelic souls brought Jim so much joy and light into his life the passed couple months. Jim is also survived by his Brother Garnet Engel as well as numerous nieces and nephews, his Mother-In-Law Catherine Solonynko and 3 amazing Sister-In-Laws and their families. 

He will also be missed by his two grand dogs- Dozer and Eddie.

Jim loved life more than anyone and fought hard to stay strong and try to beat Cancer. He touched so many lives and was loved and will be missed by so many. He loved sports, watching his Cardinal Baseball team, Boston Bruin Hockey Team or PGA were a big part of his life. He played Baseball, Hockey, Racquetball until his sports injuries and knees couldn't do it any longer. So when the Orthopedic Surgeon told him "no more sports with lines", Jim piped up and said great, I can play Golf. So Golf became his passion.

Jim was a very intelligent man and could have done anything he wanted in life. He followed in his dad's footsteps and became a part of the trucking industry at an early age. He started working for Superior Cartage at the age of 16. When we started our family, Jim decided he needed an office job so started working at Martin's Vegetable Sales in 1989. In 1999 Jim and Trudy started Bridge Carriers Inc. Jim was well respected in the Trucking Industry and would quite often have the younger guys calling him for advise. He was so proud of the family of leased operators and truck drivers Bridge Carriers built. Jim and Trudy travelled and made so many friends in the trucking industry. There are so many amazing memories of 27 years of Bridge Carriers Inc. Jim semi-retired in November, 2024, when he was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer. He remained Bryn's mentor, advisor and friend until his passing, as he turned over the Company that we built to continue on to our son Bryn.

There are so many stories, so many memories. Jim loved life and didn't have any regrets as he said "I lived a great life". He loved sports, music, gardening, wood working. He is best known for his excellent cooking skills. He loved to host Happy Hours and Suppers. He was an amazing host, an excellent chef. He was a story teller and quite often had everyone in stitches. He had a contagious laugh, everyone could tell Jimmy was at the golf course as you could hear his laugh echo in the woods. He will be so missed.

Jim didn't want a funeral or service. He wanted a Celebration of Life. So we will Celebrate him in "Jimmy" style and reminisce about all the good times on Friday, August 21, 2026@ 3:00 p.m. at the Brian King Centre in Warman.
