James Robert Mackay

1922 — March 10, 2018

It is with great sadness the family of James Robert Mackay announces his passing on Saturday, March 10, 2018 in Slave Lake, AB at the age of 95.  James was born in Semans, SK on December 1, 1922 to Flora and Robert Mackay.  He was predeceased by his wife of 42 years, Marion and brother William.  Left to mourn are his son Darrel (Sandra) Mackay of Slave Lake, AB; his granddaughter Keltie (Tim) Anderson and great-grandson Patrick of Slave Lake; his grandson Andrew (Michelle) Mackay and great-granddaughter Hailey of Red Deer; brothers Ian, Craig (Gwen) and sister Henrietta Goplen.

Jim was active in his church and various organizations including the United Way, Chamber of Commerce, Western Development Museum, Saskatoon Shrine Club, Hilltop Football Club, Masonic Lodge and many more.  Jim was a Lieutenant Emeritus with the Shrine Drum and Bugle Corps of the Wa Wa Shrine Temple for many years and a long-standing member of the Goose Lake Lodge # 99 A.F. & A. M. as well as a loyal member of the Scottish Rite Saskatoon Valley.  Jim also enjoyed many hours in his backyard gardening.  He enjoyed discussing topics passionately particularly politics.

The family wish to thank friends for their ongoing love, support and friendship.  A special thank you to Points West Staff for their care and compassion over the last couple of years.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Sick Children, c/o Wa Wa Shrine Centre, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, SK or a charity of choice.  The Funeral Service will take place in Saskatoon at St. John’s Anglican Cathedral (816 Spadina Cres. E)  on Thursday,  April 5, 2018 at 11:00 am.  Internment will take place at the Columbarium, St. John’s Cathedral.  A luncheon will follow at the Masonic Temple (1021 Saskatchewan Cres. W.)
