MASIOWSKI, Jean Evelyn (Evans) passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, at the age of 84.

She is survived by her husband Ernest, sons Paul (Yuka) and Adam, grandchildren Elijah, Koyuki and Isaiah, and by her sister Joan Nuttall, nephew Jim (Hali Autio) Nuttall, niece Lynzee (Terrence) Klippenstein, Lynzee's children Jake and Nikita, and their families.

Jean was born February 28, 1942, in Brandon, Manitoba, to Bill and Ruth Evans. At the age of 15, she moved with her family to Saskatoon. She graduated from Aden Bowman Collegiate and attended the University of Saskatchewan, earning a Bachelor's in Psychology. In 1968, she moved to Winnipeg, where she worked at the Child Guidance Clinic as a school psychologist. She married Ernest Masiowski in 1970 and had two sons. She returned to university, obtaining a Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Winnipeg in 1996, and established a private practice as a therapist. She retired from the Child Guidance Clinic in 2005 and closed her private practice in 2015. In retirement, she and Ernest moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family.

Jean was a diligent and caring professional, proud of her work as a psychologist for children struggling in school, and as a skilled therapist for families seeking support for their relationships. She was a competent team player with an impeccable reputation. She found her professional life rewarding, but was most excited and thankful to create a family of her own.

Jean was the centre of a warm household. She encouraged Ernest in his career, ensured her sons were well equipped in their studies, music and sports, and maintained strong connections with her extended family. She is remembered for her attention to emotional well-being, and for her creativity and organizational skills as a homemaker, including as the sole driver in a family with a visually impaired husband. She cherished her later role as a grandmother, taking pride in her grandchildren and following their lives with delight.

Jean cultivated many deep friendships and cherished these connections. She stayed in touch with high school classmates, former colleagues across decades, neighbours from multiple previous addresses and a multitude of extended family. She saw herself as a mentor, taking a special interest in junior colleagues, younger relatives and eventually her grandchildren. Her home was a centre for socializing and entertaining. She was an excellent conversationalist and moderator, moving through topics and drawing everyone into the discussion. She had a bright smile and a lovely sense of humour.

Jean had a wide range of interests and involvements: music, art, theatre, books, religion, gardening, cultural events and outdoor activities. She was an intrepid traveller and a happy camper. She was an active member of the community - a devoted fan of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, Prairie Theatre Exchange and the Winnipeg Jazz Festival, among many more. She was never happier than when sharing those moments with others.

Jean's later years brought a challenging journey. She was diagnosed with metastatic kidney cancer in 2005 and with dementia in 2022. She met both of these challenges with quiet strength, continuing to engage in life as fully as she could, until the end.

Our family is grateful to all the family, friends, colleagues and helpers who are part of Jean's story. We thank you very much for your support, encouragement and connection during her lifetime, and at this moment of her passing. In particular, we want to thank Dr. Sawyer and Dr. Sami for their significant contributions to Jean's care.

Jean will be missed by all who knew her, and will live on with us in memory and in spirit. We will remember her life well lived in spite of all the hardships that came her way.

A memorial service will be held at the Saskatoon Funeral Home (338 4th Ave N) on Saturday, September 5 at 10:30am, followed by a reception. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens (210 Wess Rd) at 2pm. Live-stream video of the service will be available on the funeral home website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Terry Fox Foundation.
