Jeff was born in Calgary, AB on May 24th, 1951. They moved to Yellow Grass shortly after, where Jeff grew up helping his dad on the Brokenshell PFRA Pasture. He did his schooling in Yellow Grass until they moved to Radville where they resided and worked on the Laurier PFRA Pasture. This is where he met the love of his life. Jeff & Steph were married on November 29th, 1975 and welcomed their first daughter, Dana in 1976. He had a passion for ranching and rodeoing but life changed when he landed a job with the Saskatchewan Government working on the Pathlow Research project in Melfort where they lived on the Melfort Research Station. Their family grew with the birth of their son Eric in 1977 and daughter Kim in 1980. In 1982, Jeff accepted a position as a Brand Inspector and moved their family to Yorkton. Their daughter Kerri, was welcomed in 1983 and they stayed there until 1988 when they moved one final time to Asquith where their last son Kyle was born in 1991. Jeff had accepted a position as a District Livestock Inspector which also allowed him to also put on branding seminars. He retired in 2012 with his final position as District Livestock Investigator.
His younger years revolved around ranching and competing in rodeos around the province participating in team roping, calf roping and steer wrestling. He carried on the cowboy way by making branding irons for people across Saskatchewan and Alberta including the Calgary Stampede. He also enjoyed shoeing horses and branding cattle.
His retirement brought a new outlook on life which brought new passions including fishing, camping, wood working. He was a jack-of-all trades from building fences and corrals to renovating a house and these skills carried on to all of his children!
During his life, Jeff was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was the strong silent type with a huge heart. He was well respected and had genuine interactions with everyone he encountered. Throughout his life, his wife and kids were his priorities and he supported his children in all their activities always showing up wearing his cowboy boots which continued on with his grandchildren. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family.
Jeff will be lovingly remembered by all who knew him and will be forever in our hearts!
We would like to extend many heartfelt thanks to the staff at Stensrud Lodge for their care and kindness during Jeff’s residence over the past 2 years.
