Joan Brown

It is with great sadness that we announce the death to this life of Rev. Joan Brown on August 13th, 2026 at 86 years of age. Joan was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 10th, 1939. She was the youngest of seven children and is predeceased by her parents and siblings. Joan grew up in Northern Ireland and in 1961 married William Brown, her former spouse. She is survived by him and their three daughters, Dr. Christine Perkins (Michael) and grandchildren Jessica (Vince Zito) and Aleisha; Caroline Brown, and grandchildren Liam Epp (Dr. Solin Saleh) and Joan’s great grandchild, Elliott; Keegan Epp (Tanner Van Meer); Gillian Epp (Graeme Donaldson) and expected great-grandchild; and Tara Brown (Michael Maier) and grandchildren Aveleen and William. Joan is also survived by numerous beloved nephews, nieces, and other extended family throughout Canada, Northern Ireland, Australia, and Germany.

Joan and her young family lived in Northern Ireland before adventuring off to live in Jamaica, and returned to Northern Ireland before immigrating to Canada in 1972. They settled in Saskatchewan and added to their family. Joan was a busy mother with many different careers outside the home as well. Joan pursued a Bachelor of Theology and was called to the Order of Ministry in The United Church of Canada serving in team ministry at McClure United Church, Asquith United Church, Perdue United Church, and Mount Royal Emmanuel United Church. Joan had a deep faith which was enhanced and deepened by her zest for life. Her sense of adventure never waned as she travelled the world for both study and leisure, at times with family, friends, and even on solo adventures. Joan’s favourite adventures were those as Grandma Joan, and the joy of recently becoming Great Grandma Joan, and expecting another great grandchild. Her generous love, humour, laughter, and compassion were evident in all aspects of her life. Joan will be forever missed by her loving family, and we are deeply grateful to her physicians and palliative care team, along with many loving friends who have provided endless acts of care to Joan and her family throughout her life and her illness.

A Celebration of Joan’s life will take place at McClure United Church on Wednesday, August 19th, 2026 at 1:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, for those wishing, a memorial donation may be made to McClure Place Foundation, or a charity of your choice.
