Joan Katherine Wood

JOAN KATHERINE WOOD (NEE BRADT) passed away peacefully at the St. Angela Merici Personal Care Home in Saskatoon, on July 18, 2026 at the age of 95.

Joan was born to Curtis and Thelma Bradt in March of 1931. Joan married William (Bill) Raymond Wood on June 11, 1955 and recently they celebrated their 71st anniversary.

Joan and Bill have three children: Kathy (John) Arthur, Bob (Marlene) Wood, Jan (Mike) Wood Daly. Joan was also the foster mother of Ronald Beardwood (who predeceased her in 1988). Grandchildren: Beth (Bryan) Maenz, David Arthur, Andy (Lisi Schrottner) Arthur, Sidney (Jessica) Wood, Natalie (Nigel) Mullan, Calvin (Deb) Wood, Christian (Tessa) Wood, Bethany Wood Daly. Great-grandchildren: Jackson and Kayleeana Meanz; Arya and Graeson Wood; Damian, Mercedes, Kingston and Felicity Mullan; Elanor (predeceased) and Logan Wood; Sophie and Ava Wood.

Joan attended McMaster University and graduated from the Women's Leadership Training School in the Divinity College in 1955. She continued her studies at York University and the University of Saskatchewan, graduating with her B.A. in 1977. She continued her historical research and published two social history books on the early settlement of European people in New England: JOURNEY TO A NEW LAND: THE BRADT FAMILY IN HISTORY (1999); ESTABLISHING A NEW NATION: THE BRADT FAMILY IN CANADA (2006).

Joan participated fully with Bill in his five pastorates from 1955 - 1989, especially providing hospitality in their home, as well as giving strong leadership in the church's programs of Christian education and women's organizations. She was active in leadership in the Baptist Women's Missionary Society of Ontario and Quebec in local churches, the Associations and the Convention.

Joan will be remembered for her faith in God and her commitment to living out her faith in her care for and service to others.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Baptist Church - Saskatoon, Food Pantry Fund.

The Funeral Service will be at 10 AM Saturday, July 25, 2026 at Saskatoon Funeral Home. Because of construction, head east from 2nd Avenue on 25th Street and turn right at the alley behind the funeral home.
